I have an 08 XT with the stock flyscreen currently. My shoulders and mainly my head are being blown around like crazy. I have been reading reviews and everything but could use some input from someone of similar height and inseam. I am 5'9" with a 30" inseam. I was thinking about trying the ZG, would that solve my problems? Or at least help? Thanks, Ben |

I have an '07 Uly X. I own both the short (stock) windscreen that came on my bike and, the tall (buell) aftermarket screen. I think that your XT screen is the same as my tall screen. I have ridden with both screens and I prefer the short screen. I ride with it 100% of the time now. The short screen and a good helmet...problem solved. My $.02 |

I don't think a smaller screen is my solution...And as additional info, this is for long trips. I have a great helmet (Suomy Spec 1R) that works fine on my other motorcycles. |

I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam as well, and I experienced exactly the same type of thing when I first got my '08 XT. Don't know about the ZG, but I got myself the Madstad bracket, their flyscreen, and their 18" shield. http://www.madstad.com/s.nl/it.A/id.110/.f I couldn't be happier with it. Now I can ride with my helmet faceshield up most of the time with no problems. My head doesn't get bounced around at all anymore, and things are much quieter. If you don't want to spring for the 18" shield, the brackets with the stock XT screen works wonders as well - almost as good as with the 18" shield. |

Trevd, That is tempting since it solved your same problems, but it is rather pricey. So you have tried it with the stock windscreen? That would save me $100 if it can still solve the problem... I think I saw a similar type of bracket by another manufacturer. anyone have info on that? Is it comparable functionality and price wise? |

palmer brackets and his tall windscreen made all the difference with the turbulance problems. before that, i just took the windscreen off all together. filled the holes in with license plate bolts.

The Palmer brackets work with all the stock Uly screens and many aftermarket ones, it dosen't replace your flyscreen, and they are a Badweb sponsor. |

I have tried the Madstad setup with the stock screen, and I debated seriously about returning their 18" touring shield to them since the stock works almost as well. But I decided to keep it since it gives a bit more protecting width wise, keeping more wind off my shoulders, plus I like the idea of having a backup screen if ever something was to happen to the one I use. That being said, if something were to happen to the Madstad screen, I would probably not get another one - I'd just use the stock screen with the brackets. |

OK I went to the sponsor page and I could not find a web address for Palmer brackets. Anyone know it? |

Cintron...I am 34" inseam and 6'1". Do the math...our beaners are in the same spot depending on seats and assume you are low seat. Get a screen that hits under your eyes...poke a hole in it above the flyscreen (about softball sizish to offset negative air pressure behind screen) and deflect the frame/"tank" air out and away (like Memphis Shades do). You can take a polycarb or lexan sheet and roll your own and bring it down to deflect tank/frame. This is your fall/winter/spring set up and you might take it off in summer and go with short or no screen. Or not. As you build the right offensive here you watch for sneaky air coming in around the sides or underneath. I kept patching on lexan from Lowes with nylon bolts and wingnuts until I figured it out. Stand your big shield off the flyscreen with some rubber spacers/washers and nylon bolts. The nice thing about Madstad or Palmer (I use the Palmer) is their added adjustability (not necessary...just nice. See Ettenuly's screen) and the instant air hole to offset neg air pressure. Have fun! |

I'm your exact height and inseam. Have the Laminar Lip on the stock XT screen and ride an 09. Works great for me. |

Ben, just pop your stock one of and go for a quick ride. It might amaze you. You can also get the stock X Uly screen that is smaller and may heal your buffeting problem. Might even be someone near you that might let you try it. A buddy of mine had the Buell tall screen on his bike and I could not ride it because of the helmet shaking. |

I have an 06 XB12X. I have the stock (short), the Buell tall, a Zero gravity, and a Cee Bailey's 16" shield. Right now I'm using the Cee Bailey's but the wind turbulence is terrible. In about a month, I will switch back to the Zero Gravity which I prefer because of the looks. No real difference in wind from the Buell tall shield but I just prefer the look of the tinted Zero Gravity screen. The only advantage I get from a tall screen is that it keeps the bugs off your shirt. I wear a full-face helmet for wind protection. |

+1 on the ZG tall screen. I'm 6'2 and the wind blast hits me squarely in the upper chest. The head gets a little buffeting, but nothing too annoying. I can cruise at 90+ all day and not feel too beat at the end. Even if I do find the wind a bit much at times, I just take one glance at her beautiful looks as I'm walking away and I remind myself why I haven't polluted her lines with a bunch of ugly brackets or polycarbonate barricades. She ain't no Gold Wing, ya know! |

I never understood windshields same inseam, shorter height, and that wind doesnt push up against you as much if you are on dirt |

I have the Madstad system. The buffeting is not bad. During the winter I put the screen all the way up and forward. Once summer gets here and the air gets thinner again, I move the windshield down and back so the blast hits my head (for cooling). My problem is the noise. I don't know if it is my Nolen 102 helmet or just not being used to being out in the wind. At highway speeds I need to wear ear plugs or what's left of my hearing will be gone! |

The Zero Gravity looks to be very similar to, if not the same as, the Buell Ulysses 'tall' shield. Am I missing something? I agree with you, Hangetsu, with the minimalist look, though I have a Laminar Lip on top of my 'tall' to move the air off my chest a bit. I rode over to Mobile, Ala. last week, 500 miles each way and the winds were HEAVY, both days! Beautiful weather but heavy winds. The bike handled it great and, though I had no head bobbing, I had pain just below my neck and in my right shoulder on the way back. Maybe it's the early season, or maybe the high winds, or maybe I tensed up, unknowingly, to fight the wind, or a combo? lol I moved my bars up a tad when I got home and don't plan on changing anything else, yet! I will take aspirin along next time! |

I am 5'10" with 30" inseam. Parachuting accidents and motorcyle wrecks have left my neck pretty messed up. So, I opted for a windshield. I recently bought a CalSci - the tallest one available. On my first highway ride, it made a world of difference. Happy with it. h |

Towpro... I have a Nolan 102 also... same problem with noise. In fact, I've bought earplugs to solve the problem. |

No matter how quiet you think your helmet is, you should always wear earplugs no matter what. The constant noise inside even the quietest helmets is damaging your hearing. Earplugs make long rides much less tiring, and you won't get that ringing in your ears afterward (which is of course a sign that your hearing has been damaged a bit). You also reduce the chances of having that ringing becoming permanent (tinnitus) after many years of riding. I started wearing earplugs about 10 years ago after about 10 years or riding without them. I'm pretty sure I have some tinnitus, but I don't think it's any worse now than it when I finally started wearing earplugs. If you want to be able to hear your grandchildren whisper things to you, do yourself a favor and wear earplugs. |

I completely understand the buffeting. The stock 'tall' screen isn't anywhere near tall enough. I'm currently making my new one from a 21" Memphis shades harley (no spit) windscreen (nice stuff, thicker than the factory's lexan ones). Cut off most of the bottom 'legs' and shaved a few inches from the sides. Currently working on the angle. Using toothed 't'nuts inside the rubber flyscreen bushings and aluminum spacer blocks with some Piaggio mounting bits (we have a few hundred BV200-250's in our fleet). Test drive was wonderful, 100 mph and no buffeting. Aluminum rods from the bars to screen keep it from flexing all over th place. It's just too close to the face now, will tilt forward and redo spacers and rods. No screen is actually much nicer (smooth air, no buffeting) than using the stock screens. But holding on against the wind for six or eight hours will leave me drained. Will post pics when finished, and instructions if anyone wants to replicate. |

CalSci? Not for me, yet, and maybe never. I was thinking about it but after reading last night that a guy with a CalSci tall was talking to both CalSci and Laminar Lip to see what they thought about a Laminar Lip on a CalSci, I decided to hold off. His CalSci 'tall' wasn't getting 'his' job done. Wind management is definitely a 'personal' situation. I raised my Laminar Lip to the highest position on my Buell 'tall' yesterday, after an uncomfortable 2 hour 'windy' ride, and I'm hoping that with the Memphis lowers and 'tall' seat I'll be comfortable now on windy days. The 2-4 hour rides are not my concern; it's the 10 hour days that get wearing. Keeping my fingers crossed! lol |

I just got a Parabellum 26'. It is excellent. No buffeting at all. Some air on my sides and head but not bad. I look over it, but can duck behind it if needed. I'm about your size. (Message edited by d2wing on April 15, 2010) |
