Anyone ever installed aftermarket heated grips by placing the element IN the handlebars?

Was considering installing some, found a kit for $27 and then came across a customer product review on the Aerostich website that described a method for installing them inside of the handlebar and throttle vs. between them and the grips.

It sounds doable but have never done it or considered it...til now.

Yep, lots of us have installed these:

They're inexpensive and work pretty well, but, oddly, most users report the throttle side is warmer than the clutch side (mine work this way).

Inside the bars is the way teo go in my opinion. They are much easier to install and work just as well. Pair them up with the oem Buell switch for the ultimate art up.

I have the vibration pieces that go in the end of the bars. I don't know how deep they are because they came with the bike. But will this still allow me to use the polly heaters?

what is the part number for the OEM buell switch, and where does it go?

The bar ends won't be a problem with Polly Heaters. The elements are smaller than you would think, they don't take much room and produce a lot of heat. I've been using mine for three years thus far.

When you turn them on they take about four or five minutes to heat up, depending on RPMs. If you turn them on during a couple minute engine warm up idling, you may not get much heat until you start riding.

Mine do a weird thing though, I was wondering if it does this to others, when I turn them off from the low position they get hotter for a while. It is as if the other element heats up as it is toggled to off.

I have the Polly heaters on my S and the OEM heated grips on my XT. The OEM's work much better, but I don't know if I'd say they are worth the $125 more. The biggest disadvantage is you have to drill holes in your bars for the wires to come through.

Also, I use mine with bar-end mirrors and they work fine, so I'm sure you bar-end weights won't be a problem.

I used the 'heat demons' heaters in side the bars of my Harleys. They work really well, a bit time consuming to install neatly. I constantly recommend them to friends. I believe the throttle side does get a bit warmer, probably because the grip is thinner (less insulating) on that side, and the throttle 'tube' transmits heat better than the rubber.

i'm using the polaris that for 10$ more they work fine, and no drilling the bar actually if you rout well the cables you woulden't think the bike has heated grips except for the switch.

I have a set of Heat Demons on my S2, I'm going ot install a set on my Uly.
The nice thing is they have 4 heat settings.
All the way from "slighty warm" to "holy crap, I wish it was colder, my gloves are melting".
I start with them on high, then turn them down to 2 or 3.
That's when it's about 25 out.

+1 on the heat demons. I mounted the control as a clamp for my MC and FWIW, if you happen to drop the bike and the MC rotates (I keep mine a little 'loose'), it will chop the wires cleanly ....even if you are thousands of miles from home and about to ride through some grim weather....DAMHIK : )

I've since re-routed them wires...

If you get the polly heater make sure you get the motorcycle ones, I got the snowmobile heaters and they are really really hot so I put a ceramic resister in line. Now they are just hot and hotter.

I was going to use the OEM buell switch to power my fog lamps in the first position and the heated grips in the 2nd position. That way, I can run lamps without heated grips (but also realize that I'd have to run my lamps in order to heat my grips).

And the link Bosh posted is the one I have (and from the vendor I bought mine from )

I also like the Poloy's. My 06 Uly has a hole in the bottom of the bar that feds the wire well so if I did do any drilling it was only to expand the hole a tad to put in a rubber groomet to protect the wires. Hot and hotter also. Cannot ride on Hi fo rvery long.

I installed a set of Polly Heaters in my wife's bike 3 years ago. I got the ones for snowmobiles. HOT and HOTTER. They take a little longer to heat up than my Uly. They are short, no problems with bar-end mirrors.
