I've read so many posts of folks buying ULY's since Buell was given the heave ho and the price of a new ULY was discounted. Yesterday I got an email from the guy in charge of the local MSF courses here in Omaha, NE. Email reads:

All;
Buying a Ulysses from Roosters in Sioux City so the VFR is 4 sale. If you know anyone interested have them contact me.

Honda 2002 VFR Interceptor 17,XXX miles, saddle bags and liners, top case, Staintune mufflers, Zero Gravity and stock windshields, Powerlet outlet, service manual. $4000. OBO.

I just wonder if Buells would have been way more popular with buyers if the price would have been a few grand cheaper from the get-go. More of us would have upgraded to a newer model. You just know that these newest owners will get just as hooked on Buells as us and then not ever get to buy a newer future model because Buell is no more. I think motorcycles have gotten way too expensive. I know I'm just babbling here, sorry.

EVERY product would be more popular if the price were 40% less.

The price has to cover costs, and put money in everyone along the way's pockets at the same time.

+1 EG, thats what kept my grinning at all those posts about selling Buell's alongside metric rockets....they still wouldnt have sold.
the ULY was a 7 thousand dollar bike at best.

imagine the Uly sitting next to this one at the dealership but costing msrp

That's what I paid for my son's used 07' ULY/bags/comfort kit/service manual just 6 days before the Buell Apocalypse. Now all we can do is wait for the Second Coming. Do you suppose we will all be ripped from our bikes during the Buell Rapture or maybe we will be the only ones Left Behind to enjoy the cage-less roads. That would be paradise.

Glen,
I looked at that Versys for my boy. It really can't be compared to our beloved ULY. Shocks are bottom feeder affair. Engine is anemic vs the ULY engine. The really odd thing about that bike is that when you put your feet on the ground the footpegs are in the way and tripping you.

ive never ridden one, i only used it as a comparison because it looked similar, only came stock with adjustable windsheild, had a gas guage, cool looking mirrors, chain drive,ect.
i remember when it first came out they were selling it as a dual sport bike.

What's going to be interesting to see is if a new legion of Buell fans are created now that all these former "I'd never consider a Buell" or "Buell fence sitters" have bought one. Are they going to say "WOW! If I had known how cool these bikes were I would have bought one at full price 3 years ago!"? I think we'll have at least some new owners in that category.

It's too late for this to help BMC, but if Erik gets a new effort off the ground in a year or two, I suspect he'll have a bigger list of prospective buyers than he did on 15 October 2009.
