Hi All, im tryin to take the muffler and brackets off of my 08, i see one oil line that runs through the rear clamp bracket thingy...

which end of that line should i remove, or both? do i just lock a wrench on it and turn? i see a small circlip type gizmo in the connecter, is this how to remove it?

also do i use a thread sealant on it when i reinstall?

When I did mine I just pulled the line off at the oil tank. Have the bracket unbolted first so you can just plug the hole in the oil tank with a finger for a few seconds. I did use thread sealant (from a tube). Don't use Teflon tape, you don't want a stray piece of Teflon blocking a critical passage. Only lost a very small amount of oil in the process. And yes, just put a wrench on it and "lefty loosy".

Why are you removing the brackets?

If you are removing the muffler for a repaint or coating, you don't need to remove the brackets,
which means you don't need to remove the lines,
which means you don't need to remove the idler pulley,
which means you don't need to remove the passenger footpeg bracket,
which means you don't need to remove the rear wheel.

It's a pretty simple process if you don't go by the book in this case...

im installing an aftermarket muffler. the jardine can uses none of the stock straps or brackets.

i wonder how bad it would be to grind a slot through that stock aluminum bracket so that i could swap mufflers back n forth without having to mess with that oil line a bunch?

i installed a jardine can on my 08 uly . be prepared for lots of noise on acceleration

is the jardine really that ungodly loud? i also have a dual sport thumper with a yoshimura exhaust on it, at idle it sounds alot like a huey helicopter hovering over the house. i'd consider that bike iffy to ride through neighborhoods.not that i ride in neighborhoods : )
