This message is somewhat directed to Dr.Greg, or anyone who resides in New Mexico. I plan in taking a trip into New Mexico during the last week in March through the first week in April and I was wondering what kind of weather I should expect. I know that anywhere in the Rocky Mountain region can be unpredictable, but a little empirical knowledge in addition to the climate reports never hurts.

I'll most likely be spending most of my time in the Santa Fe, Chimayo, Taos area, but I may head a little further south or west if I tire of that area. Any advice is welcome.

Thanks.

Cheers.

The roads will be beautiful.
It could be hot, if it is not too cold. Mostly it will be sunny with scattered clouds, if it does not rain.

The Arizona/New Mexico border is full of fantastic riding all the way from Four Corners to Mexico. Elevations between 3000' and 10,000' mean that you need to be geared up for every kind of weather.

Depending on elevation, be prepared for temperatures between 40 and 80 F.

Ninja-attack snow flurries are possible too.

It's not gonna be hot! Could be snow, but not likely. In northern NM (which is where you've indicated you'll be) it's still pretty nippy that time of year. But you should have a great time. Mark (in Arizona) was pretty accurate.

Be aware, though, that April is the windiest month in New Mexico; worse on the plains than in the mountains, however.

If you get down towards Albuquerque, let me know!

NM sounds great !! Leaving for Ariz Wed from Oly Wa. No good choices 'between here and the weather'. I-5 gets us to the sun quicker (somewhere south of Bakersfield) but predicting snow in Siskiyous on Or/Ca border. Coast Hwy 1 is other choice, with 2 days of solid rain to ride thru. Crap! I hate it when I plan winter bike trips and get winter weather. Our wives are suggesting we have "lost our common sense" - Like we ever had any...I mean come on...we ride motorcycles for recreation! (But I did give up flying a hang glider in electrical storms) My intuition used to be just good enough to make up for my bad judgement. Now a lethal combination of cabin fever coupled with age has apparently conspired to render me incapable of making competent decisions. Checkin to see if 'Les Swab' has studded tires for the Uly. Let you know. j
