Seems to be some uncertainty about the muffler material on the XB's. My 08 Uly muffler looks like an advertisement for Rustolium or POR-15. Some opine that it's nothing to worry about since it's fashioned out of stainless steel. Others say NOT. Other than the fact it looks ugly... anyone had theirs rust through ??

Warranty will cover it, wait till your close to expiring or whenever you can't stand to see it. When you get the new pipe, take it off as soon as you get home and do things to prevent it from happening again, or sell the pipe and go aftermarket.

Thanks Froggy - Have a year left on Warranty. Will perhaps do some minor Rustolium BBQ paint triage to get thru this riding season, and take it in next Fall. j

You get one replacement muffler under warranty. It's a replacement not a fix. The new muffler will rust like the first one did. Previous posts say hot-coating is the way to go.

S100 engine brightener resists heat & holds the rust at bay.I live at the beach & have little rust.

Thanks Dfish' - I'll give it a try. Probably should have done that BEFORE half the paint flaked off.
