Hypothetical question here. If you prefer the XT for some reasons, but also prefer the Outdoorsman bags over the Journeys are you basically screwed?

Nope, change the bags and racks, your good to go. Or buy a Lightning long and put the bags of your choice on it : )

Froggy, that means that you are paying for Journey cases and racks that you do not want. Sure, you might find someone who will buy them, but at what loss?

As far as bags on a Lightening Long, who makes and sells these racks that allow you to mount the bags of your choice? I have not had success locating them.

Thanks

I mistyped my first post, the Long was a joke in reference to what I am doing, throwing the Uly tail on, along with my old Journey bags I had on my old Uly. Only way your getting bags on a stock SS is by modifying the brackets for the regular Lightning, Crusty did it. : )

Look at the classifieds section, people are always buying and selling the bags. Hell you might get lucky and someone with the Juniors wants to swap. The Journey cases go for a bit more than the cost of new Juniors, so it will be less if any out of pocket expense to get the Juniors. Hell you can buy them from a badweb sponsor and get a discount.

I would see if you could work a bag swap into the deal. They get to trade a set of Outdoorsman bags for a sellable set of Journey bags.

I'm with you. I'd prefer the Outdoorsman bags.

With it being winter, I'd bet they would love to work a deal.

To cover the specifics, you only need to change 2 racks and three bags - the top bag rack is the same from set to set. Swap side racks, swap bags, good to go.

Worst case, you could probably sell the XT bags as parts since quite a few are being used as frame sliders, lol.

The Outdoorsman bags won't fit into the XT side racks.

Worst case scenario is that if you buy the XT with the bags you'll be selling the side and top cases and side racks from the XT and buying a set of Outdoorsman side cases and racks and top case.

Those bags DO look good on an Ss.
That's Terri's bike, and I got the mounting brackets for her as a Christmas present last year. Unfortunately, Hepco & Becker didn't realize that there is a difference between a Lightning and a Lightning Long. It took a little bit of work to fab up a couple of front mounting brackets, but once I figured out what to do, it was pretty simple. The bags came from Terri's Moto Guzzi Breva. When we sold the bike, we kept the bags.

Spacecapsule1; I'd give you a set if I could, but I only made up one set of brackets for Terri's bike. Sorry.

Heads-up.
Outdoorsman bags come with, and require a turn signal relocation. The HB bags do not require this.

Jammer, from looking at the pics of Courts bike it looks like they are relocated to the bottom of the license plate bracket. I guess we will know for sure when mine come in.. Frank

Frank - if you ordered them from Buell, they come with the relocation kit. I'll email you the install sheet in a sec, so you have eye-candy ; )
