As I said, it's probably a repost, but just wanted to share my experiment with the class.

Tonight was (another) Buell Garage Night here. I put an OEM rear fender back on my S1W - looks great, IMO - and then started messing with the Uly. Disassembled the left side of the tripletail and 'disabled' the lock thingy so I can change backrest position (i.e. open my top box) without having to put something in that slot. *That's* been bugging me forever, it's MUCH better without having to poke at it first. Then, I looked over at the bench and saw the XT sidestand I bought ages ago, and figured what the heck. Pit-bulled the bike, swapped the stands.

WOW.

It doesn't lean like an S2 anymore! I'm pretty stoked - all I swapped was the sidestand itself with the OEM stand from an 08 XT that I ordered about six months ago - used the same spring, mount plate, pivot pin, etc. that were on the bike already. No sidestand spring tool, so it was fun lining up the pin hole with the spring connected (no way I was stretching that bad boy by hand), but I got it. Very happy. Also netted me the bigger foot. Of course, if I'd waited, I could have just ordered the '09 UlyX sidestand....<shrug>

Could you check the part numbers? They look the same, but I keep forgetting to measure every time I am at the dealer. I have read here they use the same stand on both.

Ah, forgot about the penny trick. What I did was pull the C clip and pop the pivot pin out. That let the sidestand come loose and I could unhook the spring. Then, new sidestand hooked on the spring, I slid it over the base and fiddled/swore/cursed/fiddled some more, until I got the holes to line up.

Not pretty (pretty funny to watch, I'm sure), but it worked : )

Is the side stand strong enough for you to be able to stand on the left foot peg & mount the bike for those of us with short inseam?

It may work for a while if you are light enough. I'm heavy enough that I wouldn't trust it to last so I mount using the right foot peg. I've been doing that since new - about 12,000 miles ago. The basic technique is to get your center of gravity past that of the bike on the initial movement. I've never come close to pulling the Uly over doing it.

The suspension settles during the mounting and partially unloads the the side stand. When I'm over the bike and put my left foot down, the bike settles to the left so I never load the side stand with both my weight and the weight of the bike.

In my experience, it wasn't the stand itself that had a problem with peg-mounting...it was the stand *bracket*, more specifically its bolts (that hold it to the engine case).

Fortunately, I've got a 34" inseam and even with my new hardware and relative lack of flexibility (it's coming...), I can swing a leg over standing next to the bike.

Since changing out the stands has affected the lean angle, what did this do to the oil level shown on the dipstick? I would think you'd be getting lower readings, possibly causing you to overfill the swingarm.

I suspect the couple degrees difference might amount to a couple ounces. Not enough for me to worry about - besides, it's on the "side of caution" - I'd rather have "too much" than "not enough".
