So I was out on a ride over the weekend with Yooper_71 and we were cruising around the Kettle Moraine area admiring the fall colors when a minivan decided to pull right out in front of me. I hit the brakes (only the front because the rear was gone-dont ask) and laid on the horn. The Stebel that I just put in was enough to wake up the tourist in the minivan. Then for some reason my horn cut out on me. I thought I may have just pulled my thump off the button and didnt think much of it. About a minute later my check engine light turned on. So I stopped the bike and low and behold, I blew the fuse. I never looked at the configuration before but the brake light and horn are on the same fuse D'oh! So obviously with the Stebel on and smashing on the brakes I overloaded the fuse and it popped. Now I am thinking I should go back and install that stoopid relay that came in my stebel box. |

Yep that thing needs quite a good amount of juice! Got the relay with mine, but still haven't installed either. My flyscreen is full of other crap |

haha yeah I know my flyscreen is packed full of GPS wires, PIAA wires, Heated grip wires, the Stebel and god knows what else! I was just thinking of running a jumper wire in place of that fuse. I am sure everyone here will advise against that though lol. |

Chrisrogers3-not to change the subject, but I was at Titan TV on the 3rd. I happened to see an orange Uly on 41 just south of Oshkosh...happen to be you...noonish? |

'That relay is in the kit for a very good reason' my friend told me so I threw it in... and, like you, I had good cause to use the Stebel today whist standing on the brakes for a moron who reversed out of a parking space into traffic. Fuse held up and the car driver got a shock he wont forget in a hurry... it was a busy high street and every one looked in dis-belief that a bike could have made that kind of noise. Worth every penny. |

Ya don't need to go to all of the expense of a jumper wire. Just wrap the fuse with aluminum foil, it will be fine. |

Tocramed- Yeah that was probably me. Other than BuellerAndy I think I am the only one in the immediate area with an Orange Uly. I know a couple guys with Blue and I think there is one guy in Fondy with a black one. As far as my relay dilemma, I am thinking of maybe putting in a larger fuse in place of the 10 amp one. My thoughts are in the instance where I have to brake and hit the horn at the same time would probably be a matter of 3 to 5 seconds max. Any longer than that and I would probably have hearing loss from the horn! So if I can just get the fuse to hold out for that long I am hoping to circumvent the relay process. Yeah I know its not the smartest thing but I dont think that its enough of an issue to cause serious damage to the wiring with such a small timeframe of usage. Think it would work? Or should I just find a place to mount the relay? |

Mount the Relay - askin for trouble otherwise. Its small - should fit in easy.....where have I heard that before..... |

It's not a difficult job to install the relay; why take the chance? It would really suck to be on the side of the road watching your bike go up in flames. |

I put relays on everything and, with the EZ-Pass, Strebel horn and lighting stuff all in there . . . . I couldn't add a grain of sand behind my flyscreen. |

In addition to the brake light and horn, the interactive exhaust valve is on the same fuse. Don't ask me how I know. |

Bigger fuse on the same wire is not a good idea. I have chased burned wires out of harnesses for customers who had stated nearly the same thing. I ran a separate fused load wire from the battery for mine. |

You need a nose cone for all that stuff. Wonder how that would look on an Uly? |
