So tomorrow I am driving down to Cloverdale, IN to pick up a 2005 CityX for my wife (7 hour drive= I got a screaming deal I couldn't pass up)

So my intent is to set the bike up with some hard bags, higher handlebars (prolly Uly bars), better seat, and rig up a windshield or at least an extended windscreen.

Anyone have any insight on how to make this all work or any other ideas on how to make this a comfortable on road/off road bike?

CityXslicker-I may be picking your brain a bit on your luggage mounts if you dont mind.

Can't help you too much but just be careful with the stock rims when taking it off road. They may not be able to handle it.

The stock rims are fine : )

CityXslicker got his hard bag mounts from a shop near him, i think i still got the link to them somewhere.

If you want uly bars i got one for sale. The Lightning's have a huge selection of seats, so be prepared to experiment and find out what your ass loves best.

Zero Gravity makes a extended height flyscreen, and Laminar Lip is available to give a mini windshield. Otherwise your looking at a Uly fairing conversion.

Gawd I hate windscreens. Are you sure you want to do that to the little beauty.

If a test bike has one - first thing I do is ask for it to be removed.

You want to make a bike noisy, buffet-ey and unpleasant to ride - hang a lump of perspex on the front.

Oh I gots your info for ya. The bags are from Caribou, the pelican cases. The brackets are H&B units from a local supplier, the bags are hard mounted to the hoops. The stock rims will take a generous beating off road, but I do have the ESP plan with wheel and tire protection as a back up ; )
The bars need to come up and get more in the hoopdees; I recommend the Blast bars as you wont have to change the cables. On the CityX if you are going to Uly bars, you need to change the cables and splice or order the set from the TT.
Wind screens, meh' I looked into them. Its a naked bike, I ride with a full face helmet. But there are some nice suppliers out there, color matched. Drop me a PM as you need to. I have cut my teeth on the out of the box stuff. Let me know how I can help.
It wants to be a ULY when it grows up.

Well I am the new owner of a City X as of today. I started looking at it a little to see how far I really want to take this idea.

I am wondering, has anyone done any experimentation with changing out the Lightning subframe with a Uly subframe?

Also anyone know anywhere to buy some cheap Uly parts? Just the front fender setup is over 200 bucks from Buell. I know there has to be someplace out there that has some salvaged Uly pieces available.

You thinking of putting the Uly tail on the bike? Ain't gonna happen without fabrication. You could go from SS/STT to Uly and back with just the parts book, but the Uly/SS/STT have a different frame from the other XB's, so a stock sub frame is out of the question.

what are you trying to accomplish with the ULY sub frame ?!?! That is the heavy ass end of the bike, trust me, come trail time that bike is much better without it. If you are just looking for a rack on the back the Ventura rack from American Sportbike works great. I have had mine on it for two years now. Works flawless. I dont carry a passenger. She can get her own.

Mine's a Uly that aspires to be a CityX. It looks good with a hero blue translucid airbox cover and black wheels.

The Uly seat seems to be more comfortable than any lightening seat I have ever seen/been on. The grab handles (tie downs) and of course the luggage brackets. I personally think the back end of a lightening looks ugly and I like the Uly back end. In the end its more personal preference and to see what a hermaphroditic lightning/Uly looks like
