At the risk of being considered a complete moron (Not that I am not already) I decided to ask this question.

I am trying to dismantle the airbox base. I took the torx bolts out of course but when I tug at it the velocity stack prevents it from going anywhere. Iv peered under it with a flashlight but cant see whats holding it down. I know the 02 sensor is on top and don't want to wreck that so thats why I haven't employed the hammer yet.

It's simple and I'm a numbscull I know but until I bought this bike I never so much as touched a spanner or a screwdriver in my life.... why is that?

The rubber lip of the velocity stack will just pry off. The intake air temp sensor between the two breather hoses will need to be unplugged underneath and the two breather hoses poked back through the holes.

You must be getting old and weak. : )

After you take off the 4 (yes 4) torx screws, you can just pull up at it and it will come off. Getting it back on is a bitch. : )

When you got it up a bit and off the stack, you can just reach under and unplug the sensor.

While reassembling make sure that the breather hoses only protrude through the plastic base no more than 1/4" so that the air temp sensor tip is well above the oil spitting output of those breather hoses. My first maintenance in this area showed that they had been assembled too high at the factory so I corrected them. Warns about height of breather hose outputs in the service manual.
