So its 6 am, and I'm going to work..its about 60 deg. with a windchill that feels -10. The vibration under 2500 rpms almost numbs my hands (or maybe is was the cold). I finally turn onto 28e "freeway", rock it up through the gears..I get to 3rd and let it set pretty at about 3000rpms for 3 or so minutes and suddenly it lunges. Just a little..but I'm thinking "My honda never did that". Ok, so coming back home I'm dodging asinine )(#**$ "lovebugs" because the "mickey mouse" windscreen is just for looks obviously..So, why am I grinning so much. Really, I must be retard to absolutely love my XB12X, right? Someone tell me why I'm so freaking happy on this bike!!

I'd like to answer that, if I may.

I believe it was S. Freud that said, "Riding a Buell Ulysses is a visceral experience that starts at the medulla oblongata and races through the brain like a runaway freight train, igniting the primordial gasoline of the soul."

.

Yeah, it can't be explained. What an awesome bike, that does everything I want it to.

The kick at 3000 rpm is normal; it’s the FI system doing its thing. It adjusts to the conditions you’re riding in, sometimes it makes a sudden large adjustment and it farts on you. : )

Nothing to worry about, once the bike is fully warmed up it will almost never do that. It will happen a lot more in spring and fall, as it will be more likely a lot warmer/colder out than when you parked. For example, I get home from work after a ride in the late afternoon, its 70ish degrees. Next morning it’s in the upper 30's, and the bike will bitch and moan and cough and stutter till I make it to the highway. After that it’s smooth sailing.

Cool post. I know you aren't looking for advice, but check your front isolator (or just replace it.) They deteriorate with time. My vibes went down noticeably when I put a new one on my 06.

I had subway for dinner.

The nearest one is in a mostly deserted after hours industrial area.

Hop the curb, detour via three factory car parks up the street, wheelie through all of them (cool there is nobody around) - jump the curb joining them, stoppie or two in between and drift it into a park on the footpath outside the joint.

coolness

I believe you "suffer" from an ailment common amongst Uly riders. You are motarded.

Bar ends or a bar snake may help with the vibe induced numbness.

I am always looking for advice..which brings me to this...
This morning coming to work there was a small bell-like sound coming from somewhere around the front (hard to tell with helmet on)...it literally sounded like Bells! weird..and one more thing. Does the fan always make that pinging sound when it is on? I noticed a couple times when I parked the fan started screaming...but in the mist of the scream I can hear pinging..Almost like oil dropping in the pan sound..just louder. Is this normal? or should I need a fan replaced?
thanks
James

The bells in the front may be your horn mount.

The pinging does not sound normal, but I cant say for sure without hearing it. It may be oil dripping in the pan.

And yes, the Uly is cool, I ride mine as a commuter, track bitch, off road diva, and canyon carver. I do look funny in full leather with street tires off road though...

I found out that putting in the stock fork oil greatly reduced my jumping ability, now the forks bottom out when I jump the RR tracks by the shop, so I can only go 55mph instead of 70mph, and that is a bummer...

Do you have more then one key hanging on your ignition? I have 3 on mine and it took me about a week to figure out thats what I was hearing at 50mph. I guess the pitch is just right to carry over the sound of the bike

no keys..the horn mount was relocated to the front left fork area (not under the windscreen)..so it looks solid...I don't really know what it was.It doesn't happen all the time.
