Hello all. New member here. My dealer has new 07 and 08 models. I know the 08's have a bigger crank pin, new oil pump and other mechanical upgrades. But it seems the 08's dont run as well and get worse mileage. So which would you buy and why? Thanks.

I faced that decision and chose the 08. My reasoning was that the mechanical upgrades were worth it in the long run. The lower gas mileage was unexpected, for sure. While this is mitigated to some extent by the "y" reflash, the mileage still doesn't seem to match what earlier model years are getting. On the other hand, the 08's fan seems to come on far less often -- mine is only on after long periods of stop and go in hot weather and during highway runs (when I hardly hear it anyway) and when I shut the bike down (and walk away). Finally, the improved steering lock was a plus for me.

In my perception, the 08 was the year in which the more substantial changes that BMC learned from the 06s could be implemented, while 07 included small, relatively easy mods for the engineers. But then, I'm not an insider and I could be totally wrong (just ask my wife)!

Given that choice, the 08.

As Smpl said, in our opinion, there are enough changes to offset the cost differences between the 07 and 08.

We are awaiting the introduction of the 09s in the next day or so, to make our decision.

We have had both an 06 and an 07, both of which were/are great bikes.

Looking/waiting to see if Buell comes out with the Lime Green 09 : )

Good Luck and stay on the page

i had a choice of an 07 or 08 when i bought mine and i took the 08 because it looked better on paper...i had an 03 that ran great.. the 08 has been a big disapointment in the performance department and no relief in sight..

'07.
Tunable now rather than later.

I just bought an '07 holdover. I liked the specs on the '08, but bought the '07 for $8,250 - which I think is a pretty good price.

+1 on what Red_chili said. I faced the 07 vs 08 decision, went for the 07 and never regretted it.

I wanted the better turning circle and all the (numerous) updates to the engine

Brought an 08 at a lot more than the discounted 06 and 07 models still for sale in the UK and have not regretted it once

I suppose there's no real way to measure the least amount of regret felt by Uly owners when faced with this decision. You'll be pleased regardless of what year you choose. That said...definitely buy the 07.

NO...

Buy the 08

The crankpin is larger, the ECM is much more advanced, and the bike won't fall over when you try to U turn

AND...

The gas mileage sucks, the ECM is not tunable via ECMspy, and widespread dealer support for the "BETA Patch" is questionable at best.

Buy the 07.

And since we all have frame pucks, it doesn't matter if it falls over. It was MADE to fall over!

I suspect we will never reach agreement here

Which ever you buy, it will make you grin, just ride (an 08) and enjoy

I had an '06 X and I traded it for an '08 XT. I don't regret the decision. Either one is a great bike. I prefer the '08 upgrades.

I bought an 08XT, asked about the "reflash", Told it wasn't available. Been riding the bike (hard), have been getting 42-45 mpg. I don't know if this is a fluke, but the bike only has 1500 miles. I fly ALOT! Bike runs GREAT. The 08 has been good for me.
