Well I just bit the bullet and ordered a 2008 XB12XT through the military purchase program. I am stationed in Belgium and it should be in Germany for me to pick up by October. I wish I knew how to get the ecm flashed from way over here. I was bouncing around between a Uly and a BMW for quite a while now and finally made up my mind. |

Heck, you are right near Gunter. Soon as someone posts the '08 reflash, with ECMSpy you are good to go. [edit: whoops, just got edjumacated on incompatibility with 2008s. I bet Gunter gets it ironed out soon though.] (Message edited by Red_Chili on July 10, 2008) |

Possible solution would be to get a spare ECM. have it programed (once the 08 is on the list) and have it shipped to you. Thanks for Serving. YRMV Buells to Alaska ALCAN 5000 2010 |

Hey guys thanks for the ideas. Actually the build date on my bike is from march. Someone else had ordered it and then backed out. It is the last 2008 Buell listed in military sales inventory. But on the bright side the place I have to go to pick up the bike in a HD dealer in Mannheim and every U.S. spec HD and Buell sold in Europe goes through there so they should be able to flash it when I pick it up. |

I was also wishy washy between the Uly and the 1200 Adventure. Price is the one big thing that swayed me and the supposed final drive problems and maintenance costs. I still sometimes wish I had the disposal income for a Adventure but I really love my Uly. Where is Mannheim? |

Meh, don't be jealous about the autobahn. I've done 178mph on a CBR on I-95 when i was a kid. Be jealous of the fact that I live 2hrs north of Paris and 2 hrs south of Amsterdam and can make it to most of Germany and the UK in a days ride. That's more exciting to me now than when I use to race my buddy from Orlando to Miami. I don't think I have even gone faster than 85mph on the autobahn when I was driving, and that would have been for only a short distance. |

Where are you at in Belgium? I just PCS'd from there this past March. Did you buy your bike from Alex? I'm currently stationed at Aviano and have been enjoying my time here. Drop me a line when you get a chance. |

Thesmaz- Yeah man i know you. You let me and the ol lady sit on your (Man your gonna hate this) orange Uly. I think it was on the poker run during the friendship fest. If I am not mistaken I believe that is the only run I did with SHR club. My bike just doesn't have the brakes for keeping up with you guys while 2 up. Not to mention my bike just sucks so bad for anything over 2 hrs without a break. I can't wait to rack up the miles on this Uly. I just hope it doesn't affect my knee too badly. Is it possible to put any kind of highway pegs on this bike? |

You're th guy that I was thinking of. I'm willing to bet that you'll really like the XT; that basically what I've turned my bike into minus the shorter suspension. What's to hate about you saying "my orange Uly"? What color did you get? You ought to consider riding with SHDC, they are a bunch of really goo guys. |

Is it possible to put any kind of highway pegs on this bike? I saw a XB12XT in Chicago a few weeks ago that had some pegs attached to a Touratech Lower Engine Guard. http://www.touratech-usa.com/shop/show.lasso?sku=3 80-0001&-session=touratech:42C044661181c1BC32PKk41 E5D94 } If memory serves, the pegs might have been mounted at the front bolt. I'm too lazy, unskilled and cheap to try this myself (the guard itself is $227) but it sure would be nice to have some highway pegs on high mile 2-up days. Others have suggested just letting your feet dangle (carefully!) to change up the legs, and also, somehow, resting your legs up on the frame pucks. I keep forgetting to try either. Of course, when riding without a pillion you can hook your feets up on the passenger pegs. |

I tried some different forward-foot positions while riding one day, sticking my legs out in various angles to try to figure out where some highway pegs would go. Later, I noticed some black gook glued onto my headers. It took another day to realize that I had melted a bit of my Olympia riding pants onto the pipes. Dang...now I have a hole in my pants. |

I just did a couple of 11 hour runs from my home in Maryland to Deals Gap this past weekend. I never felt the need for highway pegs. My previous bike had them (Honda PC800) and I really liked them on long journeys but the Uly has such a comfortable seat and riding position that I didn't miss having them. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess I should just wait until I actually have the bike in my possession before wondering how to fix what it is going to do to my bad knee. I may just be fine. If I do need more leg room I will try to hunt down an 06 seat. Thesmaz - I meant to say "yellow" bike. You were pretty quick to correct me the first time I called your bike yellow. By the way that was odd running in to you walking out the hotel in Germany on Wednesday. Small world huh? As far as going on the Sunday rides. I want to spend the Sundays I do not work doing VTT's with the SHAPE mt bike club. (For those who have never been to Belgium a VTT is a popular event of mixed but mostly off road mt bike riding usually between 40-100k . These are held in different towns every Sunday. |

Woohoo my bike finally arrived in Germany. I go pick it up on the 2nd in Mannheim, then I'm off to Oktoberfest in Munich. I am pretty excited about picking it up even though I won't be able to ride it for another week after I pick it up. I have to bring it back here to Belgium to have customs look at it before I can register it. Oh well I have been waiting since July what's another 2 weeks? |
