New to me 06, made sept 05. So what are the must do modifications? I know about the cable clamp. Wasn't their something about the air-box? |

yup - mod by cutting it to open it or get an 07 - then toss in a K&N filter...let the thing breathe! Beyond that, well...what do you mean by must? To me changing out triple clamps was a must as well as a bunch of other stuff prompted by reading posts from the evil group that populates this forum - they are a bad influence! |

Add to that; Heated grips Grease the axles with anti-sieze when you have them out. Repack wheel bearings(just a little with every tire) Lyndall Gold brake pads as soon a they start to pulse Never use the book torque specs for the oil plug(it will strip out) |

That's pretty low mileage. I recently replaced the clutch and throttle cables on my 06 and it made a nice difference. I don't know if yours would benefit or not. |

Different tires. The Dunflop D616 is the worst piece of rubber ever invented. Change them out if you still have them on! |

Two recalls to check for, they should have been done by your dealer before selling the bike. Side stand recall, new bolts and such, and the Bank Angle Sensor recall, relocated the BAS behind the seat bracket. Look for front plug wire laying across idle cable(will cause a rub through). ECM may hit the bottom of the seat causing the wires to rub through. These are not exactly farkles, but can be more important at times and they are free and easily remedied as long as you are in there anyways. |

I forgot...changed my clutch wireform out for the same clip as the lower clutch cable clip. Pre-emptive strike. Personally, I love my 616s, but I do a lot of dirt too so I need the deep lugs. May try Distanzias next set though, I've heard good things... |

The biggest "must do" mod is to put as many miles on it that you can. The more you ride it, the more you'll love it. |

The wire guard in that picture was added in 07. Get one and put it on your 06, it will save your cables & wiring harness. The only tricky part is that it isn't shown in the exploded diagram in the 07 parts manual, though it is listed in the parts list. So I had some trouble actually getting one ordered. |

Jlnance-Do you still have the part # for the electric wire guard. I would also like to order one for my 06 and the kids that work at the loca Hardley shop only look at the pictures they seem to find reading to onerous. |

I can see this getting expensive, but it wouldn't be fun if I couldn't mod this vehicle too. I just purchased a 2006 xb12x, manufactured in March 2005, with only 15 miles on it. I have a lot to do to catch up... |

I'm with crusty, just ride and have fun. But look out for all the little preventative details that the guys listed. |

Ftd, I read your install thread for the Vista Cruise and am trying to install one on my Uly. My problem is the ridge on the plastic throttle piece is too close to the housing. The Vista Cruise binds when I try to close it. Did you have that ridge and, if so, how did you deal with it? |

Ftd, I read your post about installing the Vista Cruise but I still have a question. The plastic throttle tube has a ridge so near the housing that when I try to close the Vista Cruise, it binds everything up. Did you have a ridge on yours? If so, how did you deal with it? |
