Any ideas on some type of Cruise Control for an '08 ULY? I had a Vista Cruise (Yamaha Style) on my '06 ULY. Had to greatly modify the grip to work. Cannot do with '08 b/c of the heated grips. Cannot see a Throttle Miester working with the debris deflectors. Your thoughts?

Dark Horse Moto has a new throttlelock bar end. Currently it dosen't work with the hand guards, but he is working on that.

The Kaoko BUB works great on my '07. There is no need to do anything with the grip itself, so it *should* work ok with the heated grips.

The handguards are not a problem with the Kaoko.

Google "Adventurer's Workshop".

It is not a cruise control per se, but a variable throttle lock.

Yup, until Dark Horse Moto gets their throttle lock bar ends finished...the Kaoko bar end throttle locks are the best thing going (if the price tag doesn't scare you off).

I've never felt safe using any kind of device that keeps the throttle from snapping back to idle rpms when the hand lets go of the grip. In an emergency situation I just grab that front brake and the last thing I'd want is the engine driving me forward because the throttle didn't snap back. Once in college, many moons ago, I took off with the choke on which also increases the idle. I wasn't paying close enough attention and a car appeared in front of me and I grabbed the brake. The engine of course was high idling because of the choke and continued to drive my bike against the front wheel which caused my front wheel to go sideways and down I went. I know that would not have happened if I had also grabbed the clutch but if it hadn't of been idling so darned high it just would have conked out. I always remember that and though it is different, what remains similar is the engine continuing to rev when the brakes are grabbed at in an emergency. My Venture Royale had electronic cruise control and I didn't even trust that even though it worked well. My fingers do go numb but I just can't get myself to trust those darn throttle locks.

The Kaoko web site doesn't show buell. What model do you use? Where is the best place to buy?

lectro,
The Kaoko certainly has some risk if you crank it up all the way. But unlike some of the cheaper throttle locks it has the option of just using it to add some resistance. You can set it so that the throttle will still spring back, but just not so quickly. Even a small amount of help will help with the hand fatigue on a long ride.

I applaud your focus on safety.

This web-site continues to exceed my expectations. It appears that the Kaoko is the way to go for now. But, frankly, I will have to think long and hard before I spend $150. Are they kidding? The vista cruise I had last year was $25. Anyway, I appreciate the replies. Again, you guys ROCK! See you on the roads!

Funny... just yesterday I was riding my new '08 ULY... today I am snow-blowing almost 10 inches of snow. Man, I need to move back to TN!

Woke up this morning, blew 8 inches of snow off the drive and sidewalks and read a news article on how global warming is hastening the start of spring. Snow must be the signal for the start of spring. I hope glaciers aren't "proof positive" my suv is causing global warming.

Naboyd,

Did you ever get a throttle lock? I too have issues with spending $150 for one, and am hoping that you found a way to make a vista cruise work...
