First warranty claim at 1424 miles on my '08. Clutch cable melted by the exhaust header. I remember seeing this issue when I was lurking and before I bought the bike. But for some reason convinced myself it had been fixed with the '08s and never gave it a second thought. Cable on back order, none in stock.

There is a fix, just not from Buell.

I haven't had any issue. Others have. It's one of the problems mine hasn't had.

I had the problem on my 06, just hadn't noticed it. Luckily it wasn't badly melted and my visit to Strada at the weekend to have his screen adjusters fitted meant he spotted it and replaced the broken fixing with one of his natty little P clamps.

My clutch cable bracket broke at about 11,000 miles ('06 model),I had just got off the bike and could smell what I thought was someone in a nearby house burning the fudge out of their dinner.
The smell subsided after a while so I thought no more about it,I noticed what had been causing the smell the next time I got the bike out-that was one nasty smell! (It's the rubber gaiter melting on the exhaust header.)

I'm gonna sort it myself 'cos it'll only happen again with another original bracket.

New Improved Buell Ulysses XB12X Clutch Cable Clip

I'll save you a mouse click : ) ...

Thanks to Loucksgl for posting the following:

The spring wire that holds the Buell XB12X Ulysses' clutch cable away from the header pipe has been upgraded from wire to a sturdier piece of steel with loops at each end to grasp the cable.

The old part number was N0012.1AA. The new improved part number is N00.1AAA. This new revision part appears very substantial and should resolve the problem of broken clutch cable clips.

Loucksgl works at my local HD Buell shop and he told me about the new part. The number in his post is an apparent typo.

The correct "new" part no is: N0012.1AAA I just ordered one as mine broke with less then 600 miles on the bike! It costs about $13.00

Thanks, I'll make sure they know to use the new part when the cable comes in.

They both show up with the same description:

N0012.1AA WIREFORM, CLUTCH CABLE $12.00 $11.70 $11.70

Anybody have a picture of the new part?

It looks identical to what the dealer put on mine to fix the problem except for the narrow metal strap.
Maybe a part from a Harley?

Not at £1.99 it isn't!!!
The Clip is stainless steel and rubber lined.

Well, at current exchange rates, it's probably pretty close!
Mine may be a plastic or rubber coated metal band.
It was a warranty deal so don't know the cost.

McMaster-Carr sells these aircraft style rubber cushioned 304 stainless clamps in packages of 50 for about $13 or so. (so about $.26 each) Sounds like it might be a good group purchase if anyone's interested?

Just a thought-

Harley dealers carry "P" clamps like the one pictured in Strada's post. They're used to hold brake lines in place and are sometimes included in the braided stainless brake line kits from HD. The dealer isn't likely to have an assortment of them to sift through, they'll likely just be in they respective bins organized by part number. I'll bet a good parts guy could search around and find one that fits the XB clutch cable and give us the part number. That way we'd have a reasonably priced and permanent fix that's available through the local dealer.

Why is Strada's bike (2nd pic in his post, with the P clamp mod) so much cleaner than mine

I went down to my local dealership last night to look at the XT that they just got in. The bike had one of the new clips. I ordered one on the spot. It looks like it will do the job.
I didn't order an XT. All they have is a black one, and I think the red would look much better.
