For the last few thousand miles (currently at 43,000 miles) there's been a "rubbing" noise emanating from the Uly's clutch when disengaged and in first gear. I finally tracked it down to the needle bearing between the clutch shell and clutch drum. Ordered one from Andy, pulled the clutch off and apart, and---sure enough---the old needle bearing looked good and rusty. Press it out (with the help of my 88-year old biplane-flying neighbor Bruce), press the new one in, and...no more noise. BTW, you definitely need a press with this one; even I declined to use the hammer So If you have "creamy paste" condensation (remember that?) on your clutch cover, then your needle bearing may start acting up. Everything else looked fine. Good till 100K miles and beyond, hopefully. And no smart remarks about "crotch covers" and "needle this or that..." |

Fantastic! I had just posted this morning with the exact same problem. I was afraid the cases would need to come apart to service the trans. God news it is only the clutch. Have a service apointment this weekend for the side stand recall, I'll ask them to take a look at that (since I am still under warranty until 4/18). DougM |

What, no more "creamy paste in your clutch cover", while having noisy needles rattling around???? Man, your sense of humor is just shot. |

Dr_greg, That's great news, but I'm afraid you set yourself up with those comments. |

Well.....the problem with the clutch is fixed, I'm glad the good Dr reported back so as we would know what the culprit was.....but.....that is all I got for "Creamy paste in my clutch cover"! It was a great thread and possibly the funniest description of a motorcycle problem I have heard! Kinda like a loaded spring, you just gotta know it is going to go off! |

It was a great thread and possibly the funniest description of a motorcycle problem I have heard! Y'know, I wasn't even trying to be clever when I posted that subject line; just trying to give an accurate description of the problem. Seems like one is funniest when not really trying to be... Anyway...yes, glad the problem is fixed. Leaving on a camping trip from Albuquerque -> Big Bend -> Houston and back home next week and don't want any funny noises around. |
