I know that this has been covered before but I can't remember the facts and my searches have proved fruitless. What is the deal with the drive belt and the warrantee? My 06 is in the shop for it's 10k service and new rear tire and they called to ask if I wanted to order a $160 belt. My first response is "No! I want you to replace it for free!" Who's dealt with this already? Thanks guys, Steve |

06 and newer XB's do not have a belt replacement schedule. You simply replace it if the belt is broken or it looks like a failure is about to happen. If it breaks under your normal 2 year or extended warranty, you got nothing to worry about as it’s covered. Don’t take any crap from the dealer, as it’s the older belts that are considered wear and tear like brakes and tires. |

Had mine replaced under warranty. No explanation needed since it broke when the tech took the bike out for a road test after replacing the rear wheel bearings (also under warranty). |

Belts are covered under factory warranty as long as the belt guards are in place. It's been that way since at least '03 or so, not certain about before that. I used to handle the warranty admin stuff when I worked at a dealer, that info came straight from the HD/Buell global warranty manual. I've posted the page numbers from the manual in other threads, but I'd have to search for it to find it again. |

I still have broken one belt, on a dyno drag machine launching at 5k! Under my abuse I have yet to have one fail and that is with over 50k miles of riding on 3 Different Buells. |

My belt broke at around 25,000 (3 months out of factory warranty) (while being test rode by service tech) I knew it was on its way out. It was not covered by the a$$holes at the extended warranty company, sold at H-D Buell dealers (they only rent the Harley emblem to put on there paperwork and are not part of Harley or Buell). It states the belt is not covered in the cheesy manual they give out with the extended service contract. They also do not stand behind the work done by the service tech at the dealers. They will have no problem turning a second claim on a problem or part back on you saying the damages are caused by previous repairs. Buyers beware!! Jeremy |

You guys want to hear an even better one? In the same phone message about the belt they also stated that my exhaust valve had been disconnected and asked me If I wanted it re-connected. Here's a pic of my bike; Any one here watch Carlos Mencia? That's right; Dee Dee Dee! I almost went to pick up my bike right then! LOL Still no word on the belt though. Steve |
