I have gone from stock mirrors...to Tuono mirrors...to the Tuono mirrors with HVMP bar ends...to Tuono mirrors with Kaoko throttle control bar ends.

The bottom line is that the Tuono mirrors with the 17.9 oz HVMP bar ends was the solution that provided the clearest views. I switched to the Kaoko bar ends only because I wanted a better (and cleaner looking) throttle control device (I previously used a modified NEP throttle lock). But by removing the HVMP's, more vibration was introduced into my mirrors, which made things look fuzzy above 30 mph (more so in the left mirror for some unknown reason).

Now I may have just stumbled onto a solution!

Now here's the deal on how they work. At idle the mirrors shake similar to the front blinkers (although not as much), but once moving the mirrors smooth out with the engine. They also cause the mirrors to be about 1 inch higher, but I actually like the new placement.

They are not perfect, as the ilolators seem to trade the high frequency vibration that created blurred viewing...for a shake type movement that remains clear. The degree of shake is proportionate to the number of bumps in the road. The smoother the road, the less shake you have.

For me, I have found them to be worth the $12.95 investment. A little shake I can deal with...burred vision is pretty annoying.

What are you using to mount your GXM30 XM antenna? Cannot really tell from the above photo.

Nopark: That's another subject, but OK.

I started with this from www.cyclegadgets.com:




I then modified the bracket by making the side shorter...then I drilled new mounting holes and drilled a hole in the top center to add this basic drawer knob from Lowe's:




The knob gave me a place to wrap the extra cable. Then I painted it black and mounted to the Uly crossbar with these 5/8" rubber coated pipe clamps from Napa:




There are cheaper pipe clamps out there, but they broke on me after an off road adventure. Spend an extra couple bucks and get the one's from Napa.

When you're done, it looks something like this:






But since this question is a different subject...I won't go into the details.

that's different - i added some after market napoleon cheapo mirrors and they vibrate a whole lot less than the stock lollipops. but i do notice the RIGHT one vibrates a little more than the left. I've also added the extra heavy HVMP bar end weights and didn't see any difference at all. i want to get the mirror extenders like gotj has and i am curious to see how that will affect the vibration. i've since been thinking about a throttle control bar end weight but it looks like that might be a step backwards

Be warned that those rubber mounts eventually dry rot in the sockets and cause the mirrors to fall out. They came stock on my KLX650C. I had one dry rot in about 2 years time and the other one busted the rubber the first time the bike fell over in the dirt. They work good at reducing blur, but keep an eye on them and make sure you never smack a mirror on something.

I didn't find the extenders to affect the vibration that I could notice. Not worse nor better.

If I were to use the isolators, where would be the better place to put them, on the base or on the extender?

That nut looks like another farkle you added Maximum. I didn't see it included in the kit.

Nice rig!

The right has a tendency to vibrate more due to the throttle sleeve.
Do you suppose greasing the throttle sleeve would damp it?

Gotj: I would mount them at the base, or how about mounting them at both locations. Then you can use the mirrors like a sling shot! Oh...and...what nut of mine were you talking about?

Nate: My left mirror vibrated more than the right before the KLR isolators.

I wonder if it has less to do with which side it is...and more to do with how deep the mirrors are in the handlebar mounts?

The directions that came with the KLR Isolators said to screw them in until they bottom out, then back off a 1/2 turn, then tighten the lock nut. I followed those instructions and now both mirrors shake/vibrate (or don't shake/vibrate) the same amount.

When installing my Tuono's, I really didn't pay attention to this. Maybe that is the difference.

You don't want to grease the throttle sleeve. Keep it clean and dry. There are throttle sleeve bearings if you think it needs attention here.

In your first picture, the nuts looked used as if you had to come up with something as a spacer because of the length of the threads of the mirror. Also, I didn't notice the lock nut in the info on the web site. You just mentioned the lock nut so I looked closer on the web site and now understand everything. Sorry to get you thinking about your nuts.

Treadmarks, You should get your own board on BadWeb. Maybe call it "Ask Tread"? You seem to know of EVERY farkle in the world. Throttle sleeve bearings! Who would have thunk it?

Newbie? Is anyone speaking about stopping handlebar vibrations in this thread? The terminology seems to vary slightly. What it is sounding like to me is that the bar ends stop some vibration in the bars and in the mirrors. Am I off base?

You are 100% correct. The HVMP bar ends will reduce vibration in the bars and mirrors.
