Beware the Rut! (and I'm not talking about a trench in the road!) An awful lot of riders have mishaps this time of year because it gets dark earlier and the deer are going insane looking for mates. Be careful guys. |

Ft_bstrd...same mishap. It just took a few weeks for the estimate and insurance decision. Diablobrian...Deer aren't the only ones going insane looking for a mate. (Message edited by dentguy on November 06, 2007) |

Mine too was laid to rest May 1st 2007. After a brief grieving period and a beer and a Lori-tab. The next day went with insurance check to pick-up her identical twin waiting for me patiently. (Message edited by chris_in_tn on November 06, 2007) |

In the next few weeks hunters will "harvest" more than a 100,000 deer in most states that have large deer populations. Hopefully I will kill two. So by the end of November there will be far fewer deer and safer riding. Progressive Insurance sent me an "alert" saying there are approx. 31 fatalities nationally each year and 1.5 million deer strikes...beware... I am glad you were not seriously hurt...your were just plain lucky. |

every morning there are new deer carcasses along the highways I travel to and from school. Here in Missouri the deer are almost a plague this time of year. The worst part is how big they grow eating high protein food like soy beans along with the corn, milo, etc. Every year many thousands of cars, trucks and bikes are totaled in deer strikes. What's even more amazing is back in high school I had a friend total his El Camino when he hit a rabbit on a dark stretch of highway. It was a Volks Wagon Rabbit.....but that doesn't change the fact that it was in fact a rabbit! ba-dum-bum I'm here all week, try the veal! |

a riding buddy of mine got hit by a deer two weeks or so ago, he was ridding a Busa and the deer charged him from the side of the road. Dead Deer and Busa, rider walked away thanks to good riding gear.. Note to all, always use full gear... |

Yes thou shalt wear full gear all year and thou shalt purchase Gap insurance! Sorry to hear about the demise of your trusted steed. And that you are OK. Now the owners of the Black machines will have one less Barricade Orange bike to worry about. |

Good to hear you are OK. They make new bikes everyday, but you can't get new lives like video games. ;) |

Thanks for the nice words. I got out of the soft cast or strap on air brace (whatever you call that thing) on tuesday and the foot is healing fast. It's ready to shift. I just don't have anything to use it on. Can you put a saddle on a deer? (Message edited by dentguy on November 08, 2007) |

sorry about the deer attack and the loss of a loved one. I just escaped an exciting close call last weekend. though it wasn't a deer it was nevertheless scary. picture a hard 90 deg left hander and a large snake that squishes and slides when ran over.........nuff said. saved but only slightly. |
