I've not got XB heads, cylinders and cams on my X1. I was told I shouldn't need to change the pushrods but I'm starting to think that was erroneous information. Are tube frame and XB pushrods the same length? I would like to avoid going to adjustable pushrods if at all possible.

IMHO they should be the same ...

Under the Harley-Davidson parts numbering system you would just check part numbers ...

Now that BUELL uses the "BUELLschitte" parts numbering syatem the only way is to check the lengths with push rods in hand ...

XB pushrods are approx a 1/2 inch shorter. Do not use the XB pushrods as it will rattle badly! You really need custom fixed length pushrods that are .040 shorter as the XB heads are shorter than t-storms. You also will need a new front motor mount as the XB heads use a different bolt pattern. Plus the XB cams are backwards compared to your X!. You will need to index them to use them. IMO stick with the X1 (N4) cams.

Not to hijack this thread but, whats the advantage of XB heads on an X1? Also, will they work with a 1250 kit and race ecm?

Xb heads flow MUCH better than Thunderstorm heads.

AS far as the 1250, yeah, if you buy a 1250 kit for an XB.... the t-storm heads are domed, the XB arent...

As far as the Race ECM, I honestly cant answer that with any surety...

Mostly due to higher flow numbers...

I think with a PC and Race ECM, you would be fine...

I threw XB heads on my M2 with 40mm CV, X1 cams and with the HI flow AC and exhaust I was getting 92 RWHP.

With 536 cams and 42mm Muk I am gettin 95 RWHP

That is 1200cc's


I worked on a S2 with PhatJ

He did the same but with a 1250 kit. Stock S2 flywheel was puttin down 102-5 RWHP

No need to change out push rods ..

Running stock tuber pushrods on my S1 with XB heads, cylinders, XB9 pistons, and stock lightning cams (tuber lightning)

According to Nallin the XB heads are .025" shorter then Sportie or Thunderstorm heads. You may or may not have installation problems. Go to: www.nrhsperformance.com/partsoemheads.shtml
for the full lowdown on XB heads on Tubey issues. They have a shorter nonadjustable pushrod if needed.

XB cams run on a smaller base circle. Add a .040" smaller base circle to a .025" lower cylinder head deck and you're at .065". The travel of most lifters is around .080". Doesn't sound like a good situation.

As Nemesis has said, the Buell "Lightning" cam (Screamin' Eagle bolt-in) is a better cam (maintains more torque throughout the rev range) and doesn't require different length pushrods.

Ugh. So X1 cams would have been fine but because I'm running XB cams... adjustable pushrods may be a must. I was really trying to avoid adjustables. Man...

I can't spin the front intake push rod when the valve is closed. All the others seem fine.

actually... bent rod *ugh* (my fault sad to say). Other than that, everything looks good except the clearance between the rocker arms and the box tops.

if you are running xb heads, and xb cams, u should be good to go with xb rods...... cyls are the same.... and as spidy said, my s2 has 103.9 hp, and 88.9 lbs...... at the wheel..

just regular tuber rods at the moment. I've been dreaming of a Darkhorse flywheel with Carrillo rods. I'll save all that for when I buy my salvage XB track bike

Although there was a clearance problem with the rocker box top, the clacking is still there. I've traced it to the same intake valve that the bent pushrod was on. Now I'm wondering if the pushrod was bent before I thought I trashed it.

The other three valve setups are not making noise. From what I've read, the next thing to look at would be the tappet. My allen wrench doesn't seem to be enough to loosen it's retaining bolt though.

ARRRGGHHH!!! This is obviously beyond me. After replacing the lifter, I get the same tapping. Maybe it's normal... this is the first time the bikes been started in 4 years. I'll have to find a shop to take a look at it. *groan*
