>>>Is this a 'Buell' tweaked vrod motor? There is no part in this motor that is common to any current or prior motorcycle. Much of the technology in this engine could not have been built or was not available 5 years ago. Significant knowledge from GP racing, over the past 2 years, was gathered during production. I suspect you've seen but the tip of the iceberg about this engine. |

No, the Harley folks didn't catch them early enough to mess it up this time. I wouldn't be suprised to see it as a Harley tweaked Buell motor before long though. It would be one hell of a jumping off point for a "sportster" member of the VRod family, or for the next sportster (that would look more like a street tracker). |

This is the bike I was waiting to buy? The only problem is that I just purchased a Repsol Honda. I would have felt bad except that I would still not have purchased the new Buell. The only problem with the bike is that it was made to look like the racer. That fairing is ugly. The monster scoops on the sides are ugly. Great bike if it was not so ugly. I have over 65,000 miles on my S1 and I still would not trade it for the new one. Make this bike to look more like a 748 Duck and they might have something to sell. |

dont worry S1, i won't have any problems buying the new buell over a honda. I just don't get it why would any one get a repsol replica when the ducati its kicking its ass in every race. unless you got a thing for Nicky! |

a buell with a 72° liquid cooled dohc.... my religion is a sportbike with a v-twin in the original configuration only (air cooled , pushrod..) for me this is a shame. better i'll by a gixxer. with a modified HD platform buells are a piece of fine art , now with this kind of rotax-***G based stuff a buell will be a bike like other millions are. this is a real bad new for me. bye Alessio |

Alessio, Don't go away yet, they are still making the one you like! Consider this an answer to the prayers of the guys that wanted a more competitive sport bike, not a replacement for the engine you (and I) love most. Jack |

I would suspect the firebolt may be dropped from the line in a year or 2 due to the overlap with the 1125r customers. |

I really don't think the Air cooled XB will disappear. Racing the new 1125 will be against the r1s and gsxr1000. The XB fall into the lightweight class and they do quite well. Not everyone will want to jump up to the 1125R. But I do think the 1125R will give the owner of any Buell more pride in the brand. If you own a Buell you already like the product, but as I have encountered people like to put them down. Possibly the 1125 will turn some opinions around. |

There is no reason to believe the air cooled engine is going anywhere. Ducati has had both side by side for years, and both sell well. A lot of us LIKE air cooled engines. I have an 1125R on order. It isn't the bike I'd normally own, but I need one for the biz. I'll have to ride it some to get to know it. Bummer.... But I'm just as excited about the air cooled engine improvements. I've seen some drawings of the new oil pump arrangement, direct drive on the now hollow cams with pressure oil feed into parent material journals. The design looks great. The rotor retention on the other side is improved, no more 240 ft-lb nut. Bigger oil cooler, better lines, no more cam cup. They've done a ton of reliability enhancements that look well thought out. I'm so excited I think I'm going to trade my 06 Uly in on an 08. Al |

Al, Do you know what the deal is with the new alternator on the air-cooled engines? Someone on advrider noticed that the output dropped from 38 amps to 30 amps. The specs at buell.com indicate that they've gone from the 3-phase alternator introduced on the 2006's back to a single phase unit. My first thought was that they'd gone to the XBRR type alternator setup with the stator mounted to the inside of the primary cover vice the engine cases, but the few photos there are of the 08 primary covers seem to indicate this isn't so. Any info would be appreciated. Hopefully the improved oil pump and cooler will reduce fan operation such that there's still ample capacity to power accessories. |

I noticed that, Don't know the details, though. Seems like a step backwards, about the only step that way I've seen yet. Al |
