Was coming home from work today (nothing worse than working for free) and as I was getting off of the slab, something changed radically in how my bike feels when leaning into / out of / through a turn. I actually feel like I have to force it out of a straight up and down position, it is especially hard if not accelerating. I don't see anything broken / missing on the suspension, both tires still holding plenty of air, no leaks to be found on suspension, anyone got any ideas? I just put the bike back on the road awhile ago (had to take a hiatus from the Buell...major back surgery does that). Flat out cannot afford the $100 an hour for the dealer...looking for places to start, thanks. |

I am in the running for the least qualified one here to venture a guess, but.... I try to not let my ignorance get in my way. I had a mishap in a curve awhile back, the bike seemed to come up, and didn't want to go back down. I think it was just me, BUT, a guy came by and looked at my bike. He's fooled with bikes forever. He said here's your problem, your rear tire is flattened out. You could feel a wide and very flat section on the tread. It is not so visible, but easily felt. Like it never had seen many curves. He said if you are going slow the flat place makes it want to say up. I don't know, there's no way that could happen suddenly though. In my case, I only had a few miles on the bike so maybe it's possible. That was the first(and last) of several curves that day that I had a problem with. Something to look at any way. At least I've killed some time waiting on some of these guys to come along who might really know something!!! |

This happened to me as well ... steering head bearings .... Replaced them and all was well ... They for lack of a better description, wear in the center and create a notchy feeling at center ... hard to get out of when leaning or turning - yup - mostly when going slower ... and it is hard to get back to center until it hits then it snaps back uncontrollably to center.... Depending how long they've been in there ... whether or not they've ever been changed .. I'd be willing to bet that is your problem ... |

See!! here comes Tatt with something logical!! Now I have something else to check too, course, I need to check 'em anyway, I may have over abused them, amongst other things. But I hadn't thought about it. It amazes me how much I can learn, keeping up with answers to other folks questions, because I can't even figure out the questions to ask. |

Ed - you weren't off with your assumption .. after re-reading his post - likely suspect would be tires (especially if he has Dunlop's on the bike) ... check that first - then check steering head bearings.. (and I will be hitting the Post Office for your stuff on Monday --rummage sale here today prevented my leaving for anywhere) Jason - If it does turn out to be steering head bearings - get in touch with me - I have the tools to do that job ... did them on both of my bikes... since you're local - I can give you a hand if you'd like... We have to do Steve's 97 S3T soon anyway, his bearings are bad as well ... Brian |

...chalk it up to being an idiot...checked the air pressure before I left in the morning, didn't find any debris in/on the tire when I got home...assumed it was suspension related...bike sure does act funny when the air valve is almost sheared through at the rim...Thanks all for the help...especially Brian for the offer of assistance...now to get the rim off the bike... |

Try loosening bottom trip tree allen heads then loosen big nut on top about half turn then snug a little,dont forget to tighten allens. |
