Isn't it greased by the transmission oil anyway? How did all those 5th gear bearings survive? Seems like a greasing overkill to me. Ralph |

Ralph Little or no oil gets to these bearings! look in the archives and tell me if my little zerk is overkill when you see the rusty and failed 5th gear bearings. My solution cost me around half an hour of my time and less than $2 for the grease nipple. All for a little insurance! Jodie (Message edited by joesbuell on March 12, 2007) |

Each time I change engine oil I also pop off the little rubber factory plug and squirt a couple shots of fresh trans oil in the needle bearings. Then just pop in a new plug. I have several of the factory plugs I keep on hand. It's worked great so far. Hodakaguy |

Maybe you already discussed it on the old thread but what color paint do you plan for the body work? Were you going to powder coat the frame that sunset orange like the wheels? Looks great by the way. I really like what you did with the exhaust, especially the muller. -Mike |

Mike thanks for the kind words. The frame will be powder coated sunset orange and the body work will be pearl white with orange Buell decals on the tank. The exhaust has been bit of an experiment. If I like the way it sounds once it is all back together I will try and make a new muffler out of lighter materials. Jodie |

I got a little bored this afternoon so bolted my bike back together. I'm going to get my old front tyre fitted to my new wheel in the morning so I can see what it looks like of the stand. I'm going to use an XB lightning ignition lock setup, So I will need to work out were to weld a lug onto the steering head for the steering lock. I will turn up a piece of ally to plug up the old steering lock hole. Heres some pictures I have taken tonite. Enjoy! Jodie

Matt thankyou It is actually longer in the wheel base but it carries more weight on the front now as a result, where before it carried more weight to the rear. Time will tell...but I don't care to much as it looks the goods! here's some more pictures I've just taken.

Yeah I did one a year ago, just to try my hand at it. My brother-in-law machinist did the rough work, I was amazed at how much metal came off so quick! Finished with files and bead blasted it when done, still lots of work. Anyway I like your attention to detail, it will make a big difference when your project is done. Once I have my engine back in my car I may tear into the bike, but will probably wait 'til winter, I need to enjoy this riding season. |

Awesome job, so far! When you tear it back down - post a pic (if there's not one already somewhere here) of how you did the upper shock mount on the tube frame. Your bike makes me want to pick up some of the 'distressed' units that are available these days and make something similar! AL |
