Got my new Uly dusted off in the Dirt yesterday. Had a call from Gary a local Uly rider, he asked if I wanted to go for a ride and try out the off road ability of the Uly. We were on bush tracks, sticks some small grades a few rocks, nothing to aggressive. Interesting punting a new bike valued at twice the price of a trail bike around the bush. Gary has the 07 model, and I can't wait to get my 07 seat from Al at American Sports, in the bush its good to get a firm grip on the ground. I found standing on the pegs interesting; bars seemed very low for my height, so I sat most of the time. I was much slower than Gary, who has a lot of dirt experience, me I have to go back a long way for dirt riding. Anyway I have lots of dust on the bike, must get a photo. I enjoyed the day and am starting to appreciate some of the uniqueness of the Uly. Nearly ready for the first service , noticing how much freer the motor is . I can’t decide if I’ll change out he 616’s for before heading to Phillip Island, has anyone just changed the front? I was thinking I could change the front if it is the main culprit , I don’t have a problem with grip it’s just that weird wondering feeling that gets to me. |

Yesser, several uly riders have changed just the front with real good results. I'm still running mine after 12000 miles just because I'm gonna get my moneys worth out of it. Looks like I will be able to get 18000 on it, that is when I'll be due to install my fourth rear. Unbelievably I have been told by some it's because I'm cheep. |

Mebby, but at least I can get 6000 miles out of a rear tire! So would that make you heavy in your loafers???? |

I'm still running mine after 12000 miles You've got 12,000 miles on your front 616? It's gonna be like a new bike when you change it. I discovered that the front will cup long before the tread is gone. The cupping affects the handling greatly. |

Hey there, Ian! Planning a harleys for helicopters run 1st weekend in march to sussex inlet - they dont seem to mind non-harley riders tagging along & giving them something to think about re: their HD purchase! Care to join in? You know whenever i hit the dirt tracks, gravel roads with my riding buddies i always (me and bike) end up way dirtier/dustier than anyone, maybe its just the black?? Anyways it certainly looks like i been havin fun! Just wait till youve 'become 1' & have the confidence to start power sliding in the dirt (sweeping gravel corners) - too much fun! Dont know how some are getting 18000 miles out of a front tyre? I have just over 13000 km on my front & its fairly well rooted! Just put on my third rear as i had to ride the previous fairly new one (pirelli)50km with a flat out of the bush & wrecked it. Oh well, things like that drive home the need for a tubeless repair kit & mini compressor for under the seat! I take back all those things i said & thought about bmw riders! Thanks, that guy from armidale! Anyway, hope youre having as much fun as i am. This is even rubbing off & enhancing my other life, where im not riding! twelve times... yah mate - I've run the sync on the front and the 616 on the rear on 2 different occasions. Works fine - it's actually not a bad combo - I get better mileage out of the 616 rear than the Pirelli. But the sync - or any other tyre will fix the front. dd |

On the Tyre what is the spec of the Pirelli Front.I think I'll get one on now for my P.I trip, and just swap to the 616 when I'm doing round town stuff . I'm hoping the local BM dealer here n town will have in stock. |

What worries me is that I weigh more than Ft B! Me too! Mebby I ride too easy or something. When my front tire is in the air though, it doesn't get as much wear. I've seen the front D616 on other bikes cupped really bad. Mine is wearing relatively evenly, and I dunno why! I know how much better it will ride and handle with a new Sync on the front, I had them on my City-X. I cannot stand to remove a tire that has any tread left(cheap), but then, I don't like riding on an unsafe tire either(smoke it). |
