From motorcyclenews.com Jeremy McWilliams has spoken publicly for the first time since his sickening testing crash at Jerez yesterday, which left the veteran star with a smashed left thigh, and a suspected broken collarbone. The Ulsterman is still in hospital in Spain, and revealed that the injury is as good as it could be expected to be, and that he may even be up and walking soon, targeting a riding return early next year. He said: “It was very fast and I took a bit of a tumble. The doctors here in Jerez have been great and they tell me that my leg fracture is really clean. Should take four to five weeks to heal – then I’ll be walking and able to take exercise again. I need to have an operation to have it pinned so I’ll be having that as soon as they have time to fit me in. “Apparently I also have a broken collarbone but it doesn’t feel like it to me. Oh and I will lose a part of one of my fingers but as I keep telling people, I broke that one before and it wasn’t much use to me anyway!” Ilmor boss Mario Illien, who was not at Jerez the day of the crash, said: “First and foremost I’m pleased that it seems there will be no lasting damage to Jeremy. “Of course we want to get to the nature of the cause of the incident as soon as possible and I know the team are analysing data and footage from the crash now. Prior to yesterday afternoon, both our test riders McWilliams and Pitt had done a sterling job providing us with superb feedback on the bike allowing the team to adjust the bike’s set up and improve on the overall performance. And he was upbeat about how the bike is progressing so far: “With the exception of yesterday’s accident it has been a good test for us, we’re making progress. I would like to take this opportunity to wish Jeremy a very speedy recovery and I’m delighted, if a little shocked to hear him say he’s looking forward to getting back out on the X3!” |

I'm pleased to hear he sounds upbeat, and is talking about getting back in the hot seat soon. Given Christmas and new year off, maybe the interruption won't be so bad. Rocket |

I was thinking about Jezza's misfortune after my last post and I suddenly realised this could give Shakey Burn an opening. He seems without a ride for 2007, which is ridiculous, so maybe the Ilmor could be a lifeline. Frankly though, I'd put Shakey on a top ride in WSB. He's better than Matt sez. Much better. Rocket |

Jeremy as is would still be in far far better orthopeadic condition that that banged up old man DuHamel. I hope to see Jeremy back at it in MotoGP for 2007, but if not then I hope he can make it back across the pond to once again scare Miguel clean off the track at Daytona and show everyone how fast an XBRR can go. |

I hope McWilliams gets well soon and ride for either Ilmor or Buell for the 2007 season. It makes no difference to me. I like heroic come backs from injuries. He deserves earning money next season. He is inspiration to all of us. I also wish Sete Gibernau changes his mind and races next year. HE IS NOT FINISHED and he still is FAST. Remember the pole position at Muggelo, which is Rossi's and Capirex's HOME race. |

Jeremy's leg was operated on Saturday night; he says it was a clean break and the surgery went well. He'll be back in Ireland in a week, and he expects to be riding again in a few months. |

That's great news! Hopefully he is still under consideration with Ilmor. If not hopefully Warrs/Hals/Deeley can come together with funding needed for his return to the AMA. |

I was waiting for someone to comment on my paper weights. I figured Al Lighton would be the first. He works too darn much! A political magazine next to a road racing poster? YECH! |

Jezza autographed my rascal scooter at Daytona last march during the ASRA shakedown. He's a very good guy, and so smooth on the track I was (and am) impressed with the man. |

My pleasure Blake, glad we could share it with everyone here. I not only got the pleasure of meeting Jezza and the Buell factory techs at Mid-Ohio, I spent the evening with them at a friend's Ducati shop in Akron as they were dialing his bike in on the Dyno. Now that was cool!! That XBRR sounded really great with the new can on the dyno Heal up quick Jezza! |
