I've been looking to buy an XB12S, but am a little concerned over the number of XB's for sale with hardly any miles on them. The 2004 thru 2006 bikes I'm looking for are all over ebay, cycle trader, and here, that are barely thru the break in period. I look at other brands, and they have triple the miles on them, for the same model years. What gives?

Not sure. I love mine, an XB12s and would recommend one to anybody that truly enjoys sportriding. I have never had a problem with mine at all. My 2 cents...Buy one!

People buy things without thinking. Then the old lady makes them sell them. Cowards is what they are. Look at drz400-SM Suzukis. All the ones for sale have hardly any miles on them. It's Good for me though. You could buy my XB9S, it has over 24k miles on it! Wait, what the hell was I thinking? Forget it, get your own.

We buy 'em hoping to get back into riding and find we can't make the time. I love mine, and have had no problems, but one year later I'm only up to 1,600 miles on my 12S. One of my friends has a 12Ss and does that in a good weekend.

Ever look at the mileage on a "dresser". A lot of the time they have similar mileage to age ratios.

I think people like the idea of a motorcycle, but don't work through the details. Sometimes it's guys buying a bike after getting married before kids. The kid comes and they are required to sell the bike.

Check out how many of the low time bikes are also selling all their gear.

You love it or hate it, if they hate it they sell fast,(never gave it a chance to prove that it could be better than their first impression) if they love it they wont sell it. How many "other" bikes are for sale compared to the xb?

My Buell shares road duties with 2 other bikes and I have dedicated dirt bikes as well. Thats my excuse.

The only reason I'm selling mine is I've done all I can to it and want a new project. I put 13k on it in two years, and I'm buying a Ss now.

I'll make someone a smokin' deal if interested - PM me!

It took me almost 2 years to sell a practically brand-new YZ450F because there were literally HUNDREDS of them for sale...

Guys buy stuff without telling their wives, poor financial planning, whatever.

This is why I buy things with cash. If you have the money in your pocket, it's free and clear. Financing is the death of the nation when it comes to recreational purchases. A house, that's different. Work vehicles too.

Motorcycles, sea-doos, personal aircraft, etc. are just not wise things to pay interest on.

Pinchme,

2003 XB9SL with 11,000 miles of the best therapy money can buy. Problems in 11,000 miles = "ZERO". Gas, oil, go, and grin. West Virginia's roads and a Buell is a match made in Heaven.

In the winter the number of bikes for sales goes up, period. Storage issues, I dunno. I don't think it is an XB thing. I say take advantage of it, I did.

I think some may buy a Buell expecting the manners of a much tamer bike. It's american muscle, it's supposed to be loud and shake ^_^

No, I think they buy the bike expecting that it's gonna keep up with their buddies R1 or CBR and soon find out that it won't. This is why most of the younger guys get rid of them. They can't keep up so they aren't cool. Morons. However, if they would actually take it out riding, instead of always hittin the super slab, they would soon find out that you're the more superior bike than the R1 or CBR or etc...

Just ignorance and lack of patience. Plus, people buy crap without even researching it. Why should they? It's only an 11,000 piece of loan gaining interest. You would think that before you go and blow that kind of bread that you would atleast consider your options vs. your expectations. BUT... that's not the culture we live in. Buy and dispose.

So, people like me and others go in for the kill and swipe em up and it's like gettin your cake and eat it too. Bitchin bike and bitchin bike is cheap. I love the winter.

Later

Mark

When I went to buy my XB12Ss, I first looked at used. I found a ton of bikes in the Washington area for sales with very low miles. 1300 - 1700 miles.

Every one I called on was either already sold or someone was already considering buying it. I still asked for the reason why they were selling, maybe I was missing something and didn't want to make the same mistake. All the research I had done made the bikes sound great and fit my style of riding.

Their reasons were that their buddies no longer have one, rains too much and is too costly just to sit in the garage.

Oh and they were all married with kids. Thats no excuse though. So am I and I bought one adding to my garage full of toys that just sit there until I want to go and play.

Wife really doesn't mind as long as you keep them happy and support their hobby.

I have owned my XB12Ss now for 5 months. I still love it and am very impressed with the bike. Sure I wish at time it had better pickup on straight stretches. But that rarely comes up on the roads that I choose to ride. Nitrous can always fix that urge for straight stretch blasts anyway.

I 54 years old got my 06 Lightning long in March now has 13K on it.Only reason I aint on it today is there is 6 inches of snow & ice on the roads and my 3rd set of tires are still on the UPS truck.

sell it? not a chance - I took delivery of my cityX in may, and in 6 months, put just under 10, 000 miles ( 16,000 km). only reason its not more is ice & snow.

I suspect some of the low miles bikes may be the uninformed buying into Buell as 'a sporty harley', then finding that they dont come with the lifestyle.....

it's the season for alot of people... a few are prolly upgrading and others found that riding isn't for them... I was fortunate enouph to find a guy semi local to me selling a 05 12R. he only had 2750 miles on the clock and didn't know nuthin on setting the suspention. (handled like crap in high speed twisties..) I fixed it and am happy with what was an almost perfect brand new bike someone else payed the dealer price for while I got the "used (by a dummy)" discount. saved 4K... gotta love it.... I bet too that it's not just buell. I would say all makes for the most part are moreso "up" for sale more now than they will be in the summer.

Don't forget plain old "upgradeitus". I ride my XB9SX with a bunch of rich guys. They ride 999R's with every trick carbon & Ti part, KTM Supermotos that cost $20K because they added the carbon wheels and full Ti exhaust, MV's, Bimotas, Guzzis, BMW's and on and on. These guys get tired of their bikes every one or two seasons, blow them out and buy something new.
My XB can hang with anyone of those bikes when we are in the twisties and they hate it...it's great! Get the XB, you will love it!

on my second xb without any problems. not a single one. it took only two days to sell my Firebolt and the guy who bought it rides with all the Ducks and BMWs and such. maybe some people can't handle being different, especially when different is BETTER!

I sold my 9SX because I bought a Uly and could not ride both at the same time.

You wouldn't want Ft_bs' Uly....it gets crappy tire mileage!!!
