Hi everyone, I'm new to this board and a long time fan of Buell the man and the Bikes. I've seen what seems like a pretty good deal on a brand new 03 XB9S. What do you think is a good deal? Is an 05 CityX worth a couple grand more? |

Would you buy a brand new 03 XB9S? I did, and don't regret it one bit. Is an 05 CityX worth a couple grand more? Only you can answer that one. Ask your self if all the differences between the two are worth a couple grand. |

Welcome! I was getting 6500 for new untitled ,full warranty 03 XB9s. I bought up a bunch of them from alleged Buell dealers. I would think 6-6500.00 now would be fair. Good luck! If you want a City X, could I interest you in a trip to Wisconsin? |

Cobblepot-I bought an '03 XB9SL in Nov."04 (leftover)for $6300.00.I've already gotten $1000,000.00 worth of fun from it.I did upgrade the drive belt,(the CityX has a better belt still)but I don't think the CityX is $2000.00 better.I hope I don't take a beatin'from the CityX guys-just a humble opinion |

Check for the orange (not black) wheel bearings, and the kickstand with te "R" stamped in it. If all is well and the deal is right, GET IT! You won't be sorry. I've got 9000 miles on mine, with the stock belt. But YMMV. |

Get the 03. When I was looking a few months ago, you could find them pretty easily for $6500-$7000 new. Good luck, Bill (Message edited by xring on August 11, 2005) |

I think $6000 would be fair right now...considering they're 3 years old! I bought mine as a leftover and saved some $$$. |

I bought my City X in April of this year. The dealer also had an 03 XB9S leftover for about 1500 less. I chose the SX for the styling and the improved parts (belt, tires, kickstand, etc.) Looking back, hindsight being 20/20, I think I made the right choice for me. Either way, you can't go wrong...both great bikes that will provide you with a lot of toothy grins. |

Best damn buy in motorcycling if you ask me! I have almost 8000 miles on mine, and I love it. I think eventually, it will be THE classic bike of the XB series. They just made too many of them, and forced them on a lot of Harley dealers who were unwilling and unable to sell them. The only problems with them are the wheel bearings, a no cost upgrade by the dealer, and the belt, which is not a free upgrade, but should be. However, you might be able to get the dealer to install it for free when he is upgrading the rear wheel bearings, as most of the work is done when you have the wheel off. The new belt is part number : #G0500.02A8R. The part number is written on the outside of the belt. Cost is about $140. I consider the original belt to be dangerous, as mine broke under acceleration with only a couple of thousand miles. A few bikes also had a recalled side stand, I forget the details, but your dealer can check it out. If I were getting a new one now, I would run it the way it came for a thousand miles, then do the bearings and belt, change to Mobil one, and while I had the wheels off, I would change to better tires like the Michelin Pilot Powers, Pirelli Diablos, or Sportec M-1s: they are a whole lot better than the stock tires, which will be half way gone at 1000 miles anyway. Then you will be good to go for another 4-5000 miles when you change the oil and tires. GO FOR IT!! I agree that $6K seems reasonable. |

I love mine, had the wheel bearing and belt upgrade done by Augusta H/D at no charge. I did have to convince them by showing the service department two service bulletins on the items. Had the Buell race kit fitted, and love it even more. |

Bought my new 03 in April, and absolutely love it! 3500 miles of mostly work commute, constant grins. I've had a few too many issues IMO, such as a rear wheel brg. blew out, belt is starting to fray, minor adj. issues, but my dealership (Western Reserve H-D/ Buell in Mentor, OH) has been great about getting things taken care of. So many great choices- XB12Ss, 12SX, 9R (fairing would be nice once in a while)- but I'd do the same thing all over again today! -Mike |
