What do you mean... I'm not even trying . Look, I don't mean to upset you, but you're the one who said it would be "wise" for dealers to sell bikes for $1K less than they want to... Do you really think that a ~5% reduction in price will cause people to flock to the doors of their local HD shop to pick up a bike? I don't. Having the price set where they are allows the customer to wheel and deal a little. This allows the dealer to still make money and the customer to walk away (or ride) with a warm and fuzzy feeling. The way I see it... Shop around. If everyone would shop around and vote with their wallets wrt what they are willing to pay, the prices would come down. Businesses are in the business of making money. With an item like a Harley, the price on the bike is generally just a suggestion. Anyway, again, sorry for getting near the end of your patience supply... Maybe you could use some seven gallon cruiser tanks? Have a good day . |

From my perspective, shopping around for the best price on the HD could get you some unfavorable feelings from your local dealer. But, WTF. As a consequence, your local dealer may charge you more for a service that he may not have charged you for at all had you bought the bike from him in the first place. But that would never happen... As for the liter bikes, I do enjoy the latest ad for the GSXR-1000...If you lose at the track, it's your fault. That indicated to me clearly without doubt, the big 1000's are serious track hardware---braggin' rights on the street, purpose built for racing. My reaction time will not support that kind of speed and acceleration. On me, it's wasted. That kind of speed on the street is not the fun I envision from motorcycling. Kind of reminds me or 'ordinance disposal'...sooner or later, usually sooner, God takes over. That said, I've seen the blacked out R1 in person and had to quickly leave the dealership. That bike is freakin' beautiful. All the while I was holding on to my wallet thinkin' I could control the throttle... |

Bad luck , onebuell, M1 has been around a lot longer than you, I think his views have much more credibility than yours. So what if you own the HDI stock, a lot of people here do. The Factory has made a lot of missteps in the past ,so you need to learn to roll with the punches AND ...MORE HOT NEWS... the stock market always overreacts! |

"From my perspective, shopping around for the best price on the HD could get you some unfavorable feelings from your local dealer. " Funny, around here quite a few people drive 60-150 miles to buy their Harleys and have to use friend's addresses to do so since the dealers can supposedly only sell within their zones. Several Buell buyers have done the same as well, only without having to find a local address to use near the supplying dealership. "That indicated to me clearly without doubt, the big 1000's are serious track hardware---braggin' rights on the street, purpose built for racing. " http://www.gixxer.com Pretty much the general consensus over there too. |

"around a lot longer then me?" That means nothing. This isn't a UNION board is it? If it is them I'm out of here. I don't support gang violence. The best deals are found USED from a private owner who barely rode the thing. Dealers are arrogant and work that quack stuff on you. Like that hd.net thing they have. Why can't harley open up that info on that website to their customers? What they trying to hide from their OWN customers? DON"T EVEN try to tell me that I don't know anything about how these places operate. I seen it. |

No, this isn't a union board. I don't know why post count has become such a popular ruler to measure someones logical, sinsical and just plain useful input either... That said, You are completely correct... The best deals are indeed found with someone selling a used bike privately. I was under the impression that we were talking about new bikes at dealerships though. "Dealers are arrogant and work that quack stuff on you. " Quack stuff? You mean SOP salesman techniques? Just curious. You know, there's plenty of "quack" stuff you can work on a salesman too. The result is called wheeling and dealing. It's pretty common as far as I know. In any case, there are plenty of good dealers out there. I don't think they reduce their marked price by $1K. They allow you to haggle a bit and walk out the door with a warm fuzzy feeling because you talked them down $1000. They also make their money. This is called Free Enterprise. It's the way America works. Hey wait... I have an idea... Why don't YOU go start a dealership and charge $1000 less than anyone else in your area. The people would theoretically FLOCK to your store just so they don't have to haggle. Well, except people like me who prefer to haggle... But everyone else will, I'm sure of it. |

It's an internal (or at least locked up) HD network for the dealers. They get service bulletins, recalls, technical info etc on it. It's really like Microsoft's tech-net from what I understand. |

"I think his views have much more credibility than yours" This isn't really my scuffle here, however I think that this.... "I think his views have much more credibility than yours" is the relevant point in the post by buelluk. The number of posts is just obfuscation. What he intended was to make the point that M1 has developed a track record that can be reviewed. I personally take everything I read here with a grain of salt, fair or not the track record of the individual does have bearing on the trustworthyness (is that a word?) of the individual. Just as the word of a long time friend has more weight than that of a stranger. Know what I mean? |

With regard to HDnet... take it from someone who architects security for Internet and Intranet (interal shared and external shared) network applications... What HDnet is now is an metaphorically an intranet application. The people that use it can be vetted, trusted, and easily managed. If a particular dealer starts creating problems somehow, there are existing channels for managing the problem effectivley (ultimately involving pulling of a franchise). The correlary is that an application you use at work, that can only be accessed from work, can have some glaring security holes (either at the application layer, or just in misuse of an otherwise available feature). The "compensating control" is that all use is logged, and if you misuse it, you will be fired. End of story, a VERY effective control. Once you deploy an application in the wild (like badweb) you have to be ready for anything, and you can't suffer even the most minor hole, or you will be quickly shredded. This includes the simple stuff (like SQL injection or parameter tampering). Thats hard to fix, but there is even harder stuff to address. Things that are normally "features" but that can be misused in interesting ways to create no end of problems. I would say the development and maintenance work involved in an outward public facing web application is at LEAST 10x the effort of an internally facing application. But I digress |

Diablo is right, I didn't make the point about M1 because of his huge number of posts ..he obviously has too much time on his hands..LOL...but because he was here when I joined and I personally think his views are more credible than onebuell's who has not been around so long..and I will make the further point that I don't always agree with his views Who knows, if onebuell does not leave the board in a hissyfit, he may well develop that same credibility. M1, you know where to send my $10. And as far as the dealers go, the salesmen are only trying to make a living, you don't have to buy the bike there, you have a choice, after all this is a democracy, including this board ! Thanks Adrian . Nice Sporty BTW. "I didn't make the point about M1 because of his huge number of posts ..he obviously has too much time on his hands..LOL..." You mean I actually make sense every once in a while? The doctors said that would never happen... WRT the amount of time on my hands... I taught myself how to program in BASIC when I was six on a TRS-80 CC2... I still hunt and peck, but at 60 WPM . Oh, and you know you're old school when you have a collection of IBM Model "M" keyboards just to make sure you never run out . The one I use now is old enough to vote... made in 1984 . THE one to have if you ask me. I should probably use a different one... (Message edited by m1combat on June 24, 2005) |

First things first, it's not gang violence, it's mob mentality. M1 has credibility here because he's been around a while. Stick around and voice a logical opinion and you'll gain credibility too. Don't act like we're all out to get you just because we support someone we know more than someone we don't know.
quote:The best deals are found USED from a private owner who barely rode the thing. Dealers are arrogant and work that quack stuff on you.
Last I checked that's how the market worked for every motor vehicle on the planet. Don't try to pretend that it's Buell/HD specific.
quote:Like that hd.net thing they have. Why can't harley open up that info on that website to their customers?
Because that information isn't for customers, it's for dealers. When's the last time you were able to look at hondanet yamahanet or fordnet?
quote:What they trying to hide from their OWN customers? DON"T EVEN try to tell me that I don't know anything about how these places operate. I seen it.
What are they hiding? Top-secret price-gouging techniques. That and information about who really shot JFK. It's also the back door to Area 51 information including live streaming video, but that's so top secret even some of the dealers don't know about it. Come on, do you really think Harley is out to get you? This is starting to sound like troll bait. HDnet.com is a dealer resource with information for dealers. You're also not allowed to call SPOC. For a customer resource try harleydavidson.com. Mike L. |

John McGuinnes... After taking his first lap of the IOM-TT said something like "Now I know what sort of equipment is necessary to run a fast lap around here... A wheel barrow... to carry your balls around in." If you'd like more information about 2006 models... please do searches for... New model 2006 what's new I can't wait read everything. There... That should keep him busy . (Message edited by m1combat on June 24, 2005) |
