Can anyone on here give some "real world" comparison of both exhuasts - drummer vs, "race kit" - and provide feedback on which they like better. I'm running the stock pipe now, and I'm planning to install the race kit in a few weeks. Should I send out my stock pipe and get the drummer mod? I don't care about sound (either way). About 80% of my riding is in NYC traffic (lots of shifting and non-stop accel/decel) - the other 20% is in smooth twisties upstate. Any opinions would be much appreciated.

Go to "KDFAB.com" or look in the sponsors for the site. Once at KDFAB there is a section for the DYNO sheets. I am pretty sure Kevin has them up. The Drummer has out performed. And it sounds GREAT. Plus he is a great guy to deal with. I have the loud Arse one with right side outlet and
and absolutely love it.

You know you will get all different kinds of opinions on this and everyone thinks theirs is better or out performs better than the others. Good luck on your choice.

It all depends on how you ride. Are you regularly banging it off the rev limiter or are you generally running in the mid-range? Study the dyno charts of the various mufflers and decide which one makes the most power where you ride.

I had the complete factory race kit installed on my XB9SX. It was awesome as long as you kept the revs at 5K and above. I later installed the Drummer. I won't be switching back. Much better low end torque. It would be much better for your daily NYC commutes. It rips in the twisties as well. I live in LA so my drive cycle is just like yours. Get the Drummer, race ECM and the K&N, you will be real happy.

Ejiii....I have the XB9SX currently with Buell race can/kit, thinking about tryin the drummer. IS the Drummer louder, does it give up anything to the race kit? With the added low end does it lift the front wheel easier? thanx for any more input.

I've had both the race kit and the Drummer on my XB9S. In my opinion, the Drummer has much better low end and gives up nothing on top. It is a bit louder than the race pipe but not enough to get you in trouble. It is also a couple of pounds lighter and has a cooler looking "fatlet" outlet pipe.

My second hand fatlet drummer arrived to day, have race kit fitted at he moment (XB9r) will let you know later this week, shure don't seem to be much inside.

I had a d&d and switched to race muffler. D&D was a bit too loud and my low end torque was gone. I was pleased with the race muffler. my complaint is the sound definition race puts out. Although D&D was loud, I still found it too "canny". I've heard alot about the drummer. all good in fact. I'd recommend listening to it first, check the dyno charts to see if it is worth the 400 youre going to shell out. I believe you have to send them your old stock exhaust too. I went with a D&D on opinions, and I didn't like it even though I have one on my x-1. 2 different bikes and 2 different sounds. Good luck and my $0.02

I have listened to the D&D and Drummer side by side. We revved them up together at bike night a couple of weeks ago (Tom Zwiefel & I). The D&D is louder and has a higher pitch akin to drag pipes but not as loud as drag pipes. The Drummer has a lower pitch more muffled sound but is still louder than the race can. It's kind of hard to describe the sounds in words....

We have a XB9 Drummer in stock which requires no trade in for $500 or send us your core and have it made into a Drummer for $400.

There is also the loud version of the Drummer.
Louder than the standard Drummer, but still
not as loud as the D&D or Force. Drummers
are built for high performance, the volume was
the last thing considered. People put drag
pipes on Harleys and lose power, but they want
that sound and don't care about performance.
I'd rather have the performance. And the loud
Drummer is very loud to me, sometimes to loud.
I can’t ride my favorite twisties more than a couple
of times, before I start worrying about the noise being
to much for home owners.

I'm happy with my Quiet Drummer. I love the performance and sound. It's loud enough to get some attention but not loud enough to the the cops off.
I have the TFI dialed in too. The bike performs very well.

early 03 XB9R race ecm, K&N, drilled 12 cover and early race pipe. The low rpm flat spot was more than stock and not what I wanted pipe loud but not overly loud but does have stamped words in plain sight "not street legal" or some such phrase. Had one of the first batch of drummers installed no more flat spot in low rpm and about as loud but a much better sound imho than race pipe and the bigest part the pipe still sayes "street legal" or what ever the stock pipes say. A win win deal. Go Drummer ok maybe a little biased but you asked. I sold the race pipe for about 50% of cost and haven't looked back.

I've heard a lot of opinions about the sound of these two. Are there any sound clips out there? I had heard that the race pipe was a different kind of sound all together.

I really do love the looks of the race can though.

Quiet drummer?

I asked Kevin about that once and he said he could make one without loosing power.

I wonder how it would compare to my current drummer. I think I have one of the first series.

The drummer seems to be the pipe to go with if you own a XB9, but what about for the XB12? Is the Drummer still the best bang for the buck?

These dynos for the 12 are the loud Drummer with race ecm,tfi,filter......www.norrisperformance.com/dynos.htm

The pipe makes real linear power without losing power anywhere, you actually gain quite a bit...

Also on the link to the dynos above , look at the difference in the Drummer vs V&H on the 99 X1...modified stock pipe on it also...getting ready to compare to the D&D on this bike also in the future.....

If anyone is interested this is the only one of these left....the new ones will not look like this one, they will have billet front and rear caps with a billet front mount .....lot of time in this one but would like to see it in service instead of at the shop......

How much difference in sound is there between the drummer and the jardine. I have a jardine now but I am getting tired of the brackets breaking, (4 brackets broken so far, 2 on each side). I am just waiting to get some money together so I can get a drummer, but I would like to know if the drummer is louder or quieter than the jardine.

I just purchased and 12 drummer from Kevin. It is great with a very deep sound. I sent my pipe off last Wed and got the drummer today. Great service. Thank you Kevin. Now I have to get the race ecm, tfi, and the filter to complete everything. I will send Kevin the dyno results to post on his site. Thank you again Kevin.

Between the race pipe and the Drummer, for driving around NYC, there is little doubt that the Drummer is the way to go. There are other pipes to consider, each with their different advantages...

Special OPS, D&D, Jardine... to name a few.
