With both Dyna and a Hooters in Daytona there could be a disruption in the force if this does have any validity. It'd be great to be there and see the look on his face if it is to be. |

...TMW: Are there any future models in the works? Tom: Buell loves advanced innovative technology, so yes there sure are. Buell riders tell us they want more: more horsepower and even more torque. So our challenge is to come up with the perfect engine to give our Buell riders what they want and deserve. As for secrets, I can let out that we are going to be using the Harley-Davidson V-Rod engine for a Buell model this year, which will be released at Daytona 2005! The Harley-Davidson V-Rod engine will of course go though our research and development departments, which we have done in the past with the other Harley-Davidson type engines, to ensure that the engine is a perfect fit with our new model. What the result will be is a Buell V-Rod derivative that will wow our riders and customers... ...what a ripple in the force this would be if true... |

If it's true... He probably wasn't supposed to say anything... Fire him. If it's not true... He may cost the mother ship a bit of cash due to a lost sale... Fire him. Just for the record... I'll take door number two. |

The XB's have me really hooked on minimalism. That and I find the VROD motor to be a really ugly, squarish block. You guys can have it... But then again, Erik has a way of twisting & refining things and making them attractive again |

A revo engine in a Buell would probably not look like the one in a V-rod since the fins are just cosmetic anyways. That and the water hoses would probably also be routed differently. Time will tell, time will tell! |

It would be a PIG! I wouldn't buy one for less money than the current retail on the XB12... That engine and it's coolant are TOO HEAVY. A re-worked Revo? MAYBE. |

This website seems to be the "Weekly World News" of motorcycle journalism. The Buell Canada guy claims to have never said anything like this, and no Harley/Buell employee I've ever met would say something like this to a journalist. In contrast, I've been told by Erik that there are no plans to ever use the V-Rod engine or a derivative in any Buell ever. (Message edited by steve_a on February 24, 2005) |

I am on the phone with Tom Wild to do a follow-up interview, I am the 2nd person to call. Steve A hit it on the head, this is a canned piece from the moto equivalent of National Enquirer. Having spoken to Tom, I declare him both "in shock" and innocent. If he needed "reprimanded" he's getting it today, my call was not the first. Amy, who answers the phone, is even trying to figure out Tom's newfound celebrity today. See if my interview with Tom sounds more on the mark:
quote:"I remember talking to a guy on the floor, but it was about the excitement surrounding the FX racing Buell will be participating in this year".
He went on to confess a long standing affinity for Buell and, in my personal opinion, shares our excitement for the brand. I have invited Mr. Wild to tune in here to defend himself OR share his inside info here first. Live....from the scene....your on the spot reporter. Court Steve: Doesn't "honest" journalism just lack excitement? |

I think what it really boils down to is why would an asst manager of a Canadian dealership be privy to this kind of information in the first place? I think that says it all. |

>>>I think that says it all. Nah.....it's shoddy journalism. I took the time to call the guy, he's as much as enthusiast, albeit an embarrased on, as you and I. Give him a call and tell him we'll get him out of this but he has to come here and go through Badweb reindoctrination whereby we make him sit and read Steve Anderson articles. Having saturated him with objective, well studied journalism, we'll then discharge him back to Canada. Eh? Court |

Groan, I'm starting to tire of these threads. I know I know, don't click on it, but the whole thing about the article got me in it. I guess we can all agree this is only going to get worse the closer we get to July right? |

Settle down kids and don't get ahead of yourself.....let's get through the final days of "personal tiff month" before we start celebrating any of the other joys motorcycling brings. And to think I was gonna listen to music and relax. Am I the only one who thinks we should fly Mr. Tom Wild in to present the Badweb Contingency Check at Daytona? This guy is, in my book, on the cusp of becoming a national hero! |

Court, What would it cost to fly him in to Daytona like you suggested? Might help him out with his higher ups to know a large segment of the Buell community appreciates his situation. I imagine he could use some cheering up too. Paul |

I've been told by Erik that there are no plans to ever use the V-Rod engine or a derivative in any Buell ever. May or may not be 100% factual, but if so why invest the time & $$ into building test mules with Revo motors?? Oh yes they do exist |

time & $$ into building test mules with Revo To see what happens, to prove a point, to develope a sportyier sportster, to abuse the motor for testing puposes, to look at packaging options, cause you can and it fun? Probably a few other ideas. Why do thye ride around on them if they are never gonna see production? Duh!! It is fun to ride cool bikes that belong to others. |

>>>why invest the time & $$ into building test mules with Revo motors?? Part of the process is simply to PRACTICE building off-beat different stuff. May sound funny to the unitiated but there are some exercises you go through to maintain, at a sharp levle, the creative and professional skills of the folks in R&D. Many recall the turbo S-1 that Erik rode the day he and I did the wedding ceremony on the steps of 3700 Juneau. That bike was never intended to see production, simply to play some "what if". I bet info was gathered about the chassis, handling and perhaps some etceteras as well. Lord help us if everything Erik & Co. fiddle with in their spare time MUST go into production. I have yet to ever have any hankering of having even the slighest curiously about a Buell with a VROD motor. That's time putting a Ford 5.4 in a Porsche. Court |
