couldn't you just make this by cutting holes in the current plastic airbox cover? I was thinking of doing this to mine. Does anyone see any problems with this kind of mod? Has anyone done this yet?

With fuel injection anyway, I would replace the stock rubber velocity stack with a tuned length billet one. I am thinking about the F.A.S.T. system from hillbilly motors. They claim a consistent gain of 6 hp. on a stock '03 9R (w/ Buell's race kit).
