The natural finish aluminum wheels are a real bitch to keep looking good (water, brake dust, etc.) has anyone powder coated theirs? Did it turn out ok? Are they any easier to wipe down rather than polish for hours?

Mine look great.. I just use wheel cleaner on them... I don't believe they are a naked natural finish... I believe they are clear-coated....

I think they are clear-coated, but I've never been able to keep them clean on either my Blast or the Firebolt.

I'm giving up and either powder-coating or buying the black ones.

Yes, you can powder-coat them, but make sure whoever does it knows what the hell they're doing.

I don't what kind of wheels you guys have if it's clear coated. Mine are definitely not. I polished them once but gave up. I will have them powder coated white some time.

I don't recommend black or white...

I own a black truck and a white car. White would be the better choice out of the two, but both are a REAL pain in the ARSE to keep clean.

I had my '03 9R wheels powdercoated black last winter. They look great, but like M1combat says they are not an easy color to keep clean...

I'm in the same boat with keeping these wheels clean. it got to a point where it almost feels corroded on the wheels so I gave up trying to clean them. Ahh I remember the day when they were new and shiny.... Memories...oh sweet memories... I'd go for black, or have mine striped repolished then clear coated again. But only if I could find an easy way to keep them clean.

I wonder if there is a powder coat color the same as brake dust: D

I had white rims on a CBR & they were a pain to keep clean, the black ones on my R1 arent much better & the Nuclear blue ones on my X1 are just as bad.

The only trick is to clean them almost daily. Brake dust is very corrosive & if you dont stay on top of it your rims will get pitted & there is nothing you will be able to do then.

I think I'm going to paint all the plastics Chevy Truck dark blue and the wheels either high gloss back or the same shade of blue. I want something different. Blue's my favorite color. I'm starting to paint the silver on mine all gloss dark metallic gray. I hate the "10 different colors" scheme. I just want some gray and some black. I'll take a look at that site. Thanks.....Odie

Hey I had mine Powder coated jet black, then clear coated(three coats). I did however, mask off the polished areas on the outer edges of the rims. Kinda gives a two-tone effect. But like Darthane says, make sure to see some past work. Find out who in the shop will be doing it and if they have done bike rims before. The shop I used ended up buying me a new front rim. That was alot of down time!

U4euh, can you post some good, clear pics of your rims, particularly the silver vs. black area. Is it a nice smooth line/transition between the powder and the silver?? I've been thinking about doing that but I'm thinking just a solid color......Odie

My white with pollished rims are real easy to clean. Quick spray with truck wash from a spray bottle, leave for a minute and then wash with a hose. All the brake dust comes straight off.

Odie; if you don't like your amber wheels and will be painting anyway, maybe you'd consider some sort of trade for a set of '03 silver wheels??

Ping me off-line
