sorry to hear that I crashed too and about two days ago. I am planning to fix everything by myself though so the labor won't kill me

Is it too late to suggest that you wear proper riding gear? Long sturdy pants, over the ankle boots, and a long sleeve jacket? Might not be so lucky next time around...bikes can be replaced....

dj_rider...the shop is the one who came up with 8900. the appraiser from the insurance company has yet to show up to conduct an estimate. i am getting impatient. i called the insurance company today and all the guy could tell me was "well, it is busy this time of year". i say to him "yeah but its been almost 2 weeks. is the guy on vacation?". he replies "i can't make him work any faster."

at least i have my sportster to ride around on.

hey rock, the reason i didnt have my gear on was because i had just gotten done washing the bike and was just doing my routine of going around the block to vibrate any excess water off the bike before i polished it up...but u can bet your bottom dollar, i drop a few hundred dollars on some new gear!!: )

I must have missed out on the details. Just curious about HOW you went down (I try not to reinvent the wheel by learning from others). Gravel? Slick spot? Cage pull out in front of you? Dozed off (haha)? Thanks.

At least you're walking...

Consider buying a cheap air compressor (Sears, $80) to blow off much of the water you can't get at with a diaper or soft rag.

i had just put a new tire on the bike, and i was taking the bike out after i washed it, to dry it off and scuff the rear tire up a bit, when i went around a bend, a little pebble mustve gotten stuck in the m1 rear tires tread and acted like a part of the tire, and slid out the rear end: (

You made it OK, that's good. Bike sounds like it's a total loss.

Don't forget about proper run-in of new tires:
From Metzeler:

quote:

After fitting, the tyre should not be used with maximum power or hard cornering and not over 60 mph for the first 100-150 miles. This is needed to allow the tyre/rim assembly to adjust properly and most of all to let the compound find his optimum working conditions.

Also there may be some residual release compound on the tire which is slippery and gets worse if water dripped on it.
Mike.

I doubt it was a pebble...refer back to the numerous postings a week or two ago regarding mould release and scrubbing in new tires. Glad you're OK though.

Sorry to hear about your crash. Get well soon buddy.

Good to hear next time you'll wear your gear, even for 'just' a ride around the block. It's less than five minutes to get into it but it takes weeks if not months to heal. Really well worth it.

My mom and dad went down a few weeks ago with just 15mph. Mom's been in the hospital for 2 weeks and has got metal parts in her leg and wrist. I'll think twice to to get on without proper gear.
