Hi. I need to upgrade the forks and triples on my '06 XB12X. I'm told the 2008+ sets are a larger diameter and increase turning radius. I am looking to purchase everything needed for the swap. No XT parts please except where they match the X pieces (if any, I dunno). Thanks! Lawrence F. |

You can do that but you can also just change the trees. The top of the forks are the same diameter and you can put your 06 forks in the 08 trees. The 08 forks move your axle back 3/4" to put it back in the original position where the 06 will change your dimensions slightly but I didn't notice any difference in handling. If anything it increased high speed stability. I also went with 07 springs in the 06 forks. That made a huge difference. |

2008+ lower fork mounts at the hub are offset, to match the 2008+ triple trees offset, in order to maintain the steering geometry. Note the bottom of the fork legs. Here's a pic comparing the 2008+ forks I installed (on the left) to my stock 2007 forks (on the right).

Lower triple tree comparison, you can see the limit bump difference in the middle, plus the offset stem. Top is the 2007, lower is the 2008+.

Top triple tree comparison, you can see the offset of the lower triple tree stem hole in the middle. Left is the 2007, right is the 2008+.

Great info. Thanks, all. Having these photos available to compare while I find replacements will be a big help. To my non-mechanical engineer mind the larger diameter forks will provide additional rigidity/strength. With the trail riding I do, I'm afraid I've damaged the right-hand side fork. New seals don't hold long anymore. |

Tootal posted an excellent write up of the conversion process a while back. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/442538.html?1236474150 |
