Well, Joshua, I still have my '06 Uly, and it's great, but I went and made my main bike a newer KTM. Part of it was getting ahead of the game before anything big/bad happens to the Uly. It's still solid though. You definitely should have some mechanical skills to own any Buell now, but they are pretty straightforward bikes to work on if you do (can't say that for the new stuff like my KTM). Crempel had to ditch his, but he relies on his bike every day for work. If you can afford to have it down for work every now and then, and know your way around a toolbox, there are certainly good deals and a lot of fun left in these XB's. Like Crempel said, Buelltours may be obsessed with tubers, but I've been riding with him for over 1 year and have only seen him ride his Uly! good luck with your decision. maybe you'll ride with us sometime. |

Crempel- I saw your ad for your '06 - hate I missed that. The price seemed great! Currently on craigslist there is a red 09 in Kernersville asking 4900, and a 09 Police in Greer asking 5500. Both have minor cosmetic issues. Am I correct to avoid 07's due to the crank issue? I read that post 08' were good... a few fixable things addressed stock? If there is a "Uly buyers guide" on here that I haven't found, please point me to it. |

Timinnc - I absolutely can't find my PM's! I did Email you- thx. -------------------- I have a question for the group. Ulysses X vs XT. I read that the longer-travel suspension is on the X - (I'm 6'2" and long-legged so I'm thinking that would be my preference). Also I see the "beak" on the X's, and the more-often included panniers on XT's, then the windscreen difference. SO! what exactly comprises the "taller" of the X? Is is possible to set up an XT "taller" like an X? Are there links? Different springs? Circlip locations inside? I've been looking mostly at X's because I want the taller suspension - expect to ride loaded and 2-up on bumpy roads - but there's an XT for sale that looks like it could be nice... |

Check out the "New Ulysses Owner" thread at top (center) of the Big, Bad & Dirty forum page. It's got a LOT of collected info on the Uly over the years. Might help you decide if you want to narrow your search or not. I have an '06, so it would be like shunning my own child to tell you to avoid them! Best to decide on your own based on that info. Don't know that making an XT into a X is practical (never thought about it), but i am 6'-4" with 36 inseam, so the '06 X (tall seat year) was the logical choice for me. Of course the seats are all interchangeable. I now wish I had gone with the 1" lower footpegs when I bought aftermarket pegs. My KTM is much more roomy for long legs. But the Uly certainly isn't bad if you have a more normal inseam (<34"?). Certainly if you want bags, having them included in the price is a big plus to consider, and might make the XT more attractive than a X w/o bags. XT's came with the bags, so anyone selling one w/o them is parting out the bike, in a way. I seam to recall XT's may have had single rate fork springs, where X's 2007 and up had triple rate springs. I put '07 fork springs in my '06 for this reason (to get more progressive front end for larger hits). I find the Uly suspension to be great and versatile for my 180 lbs plus gear. Maybe a bit soft for a heavier person or 2-up with larger folks. My KTM has even better suspension for sure, but then you are in a whole 'nother league on price, so not really a fair comparison. |

Joshua, I think you have an incorrect email address listed here.... I tried to email you directly from an email I got from you via BWB.... When I did that at k*****12@frontier.com came back as a bad address. Haven't gotten any emails directly from you as of 1:20 PM 2/25 You can call me at 828 450 7022 if you like. |

Blueridge- Sounds like an X would fit you better, but if the XT is a good deal, give it a try. You could always keep an eye out for a good X, that might be available, later. Both front and rear suspension are different. I think some people have put XT suspention on their X (to lower), so there may be spare X suspension available (used). |

Hi Josh, just seeing your message now: I think in the future it will be much easier to keep a tuber alive, since most of the parts are either used in some Harley or can be fixed with a welder.... The fuel frame is not easily repairable IMO. The Uly is a great bike. I never tried the XT but cannot imagine it is much different. I think you should go with the best deal. At your height both bikes will be comfortable, I got 34 inseam and feel ok with both high and low seat. And about constantly riding the Uly: I only ride it with those modern weekend-Valentino, because it is the only bike with which I can barely keep up: The tubers are just not so fast in the mountains. I ride those when I am flying solo :-) We ride through Waynesville quite a bit. In fact, where are we going this weekend? Meet us for lunch and we chat some more.... Cheers, Cornel |

Flat rock bakery in Flat Rock, just on the edge of Hendersonville. You can bring other bikes too, don't let Cornel bully you. |

Well, I did it! Now a Uly owner! I traveled far and wide, saw some nice bikes but not quite what I was looking for.. ALMOST diverted my daughter's spring break trip all the way to Missouri for a great-looking '08 there...but ended up finding one right in my own back yard. -Searched through the Archived classifieds here and (probably bothered a few folks) to be sure I hadn't missed any bikes. Found a '09 XB12x right here in N.C. and purchased it from it's very attentive, mechanic owner. From his words, his experiences with the Buell, his approaches to some of the "issues" with the bikes, and the atmosphere in his shop, I knew this was the person to buy a used Buell from. I couldn't be happier. Not sure I'm going to need to so a single thing to it for a while! |

I didn't lie! I took the kids "last weekend" - wifey has 'em this weekend. We kinda trade like that to have our own fun sometimes - ain't that a healthy marriage! It's a beautiful saturday morning, and the fam is leaving in the van shortly. Bakery ride sunday? It'd be my first. Would like to meet a few folks, get input on my xb12x, and ....yeah.... I wanna see that darn KTM 1190 adventure, I suppose! |

I'm starting my ride now, will find my way to the Bakery around 9:30. I need very little "reason" to go to a bakery, or ride my bike, for that matter! |

Nice ride last Sunday! Getting to know my bike on great roads without the need to "plan a route" was a treat! Lots of knowledge and experience in this group, obviously. Very gracious, good guys! Much faster than me! If they stop taking the pace easy on my account, I'll be riding solo off the back. I suppose I'm on the "steep part of the learning curve" - which is always exciting. Getting comfortable with the Uly, lean angles and "is there enough traction" is something that I expect with just come with more riding. I do enjoy some aggressive riding on a mountain bike or a 2t KTM on the trails... but this asphalt stuff can be kinda scary and looks painful to land on. The speeds are higher than I attain on my bicycle as well. Ha! I'll have to unlearn some old habits formed riding around the country 2-up on a 1980 gold wing. It didn't handle so good It was a great tourer, but didn't exactly "reward" a brisk pace in the twisties. Diggin' my Ulysses. |

What companies do folks like for motorcycle insurance in North Carolina? I'm wondering if just adding to my home+auto policy was the best choice.... |
