I'm still having ground problems at rear of bike , signals and Brake light.
I've gone through the stuff at the back new connectors, new soldered joints, everything cleaned, and continuity test to connector.

All good.

I've checked the ground under the instrument panel, taken apart, sprayed contact cleaner and back together.

Anyone know where the ground from the tail goes after the connector at front of tail section? I mean where does it actually make ground?

Any good ideas are appreciated.

I'm not to the hair pulling stage yet, but I'm getting there.

This is talking out my a$$ here...but isn't there a ground lug somewhere behind the battery / above the swingarm pivot, center of the frame?

I was just in my wiring, but doing front end stuff (new HID headlamp)...and it's been a looooong time since I did back-end stuff (added a Uly taillight element, and wig-wag brakelight flashers, inside the factory taillight lens).

Yes there is, a big ground strap.

Not sure that's where the tail lights ground to though.

Well it's either there, the instrument cluster...or the battery.

There's no ground point on the tail.

Got a diagram? Or...ID the ground wires at the rear, cut them, splice them together to your own ground wire, and run it to...well...wherever the hell you want it to be.

Doing my headlight last night, I was reminded that I made a pair of battery terminals - 1.5" long aluminum plate, hole at one end to bolt to the battery, hole at the other end to bolt/nut to all the terminals run there.

Heated clothing.
Battery tender.
PIAA aux lights.
Kuryakyn voltmeter.
And now...the HID headlight.

ALL with star washers between them, to keep things from vibrating loose.

It's a big pile of spaghetti...but everything works and I can get to it if needed.

Rat that's going to be my last resort, but I'll do it if I can't fix it as stock.

I have a little ground bar in stock too.

Eric had a similar issue with his S2 when he came to the tall last month. Turned out BOTH (front and rear) of his brake switches were bad.

It's really starting to sound like the wires in the taillight are mixed up. I'll see if I can find the color coding picture I took a few times to make sure I put them in right. If they are in wrong,it will do what you seem to be describing.

There is a ground at the voltage regulator where it attaches to the frame also.

The red wire is the brake light, the green is the tail light. Black is ground.

Also check rear harness to tail lights connector near oil tank area for good solid connection.I ended up zip-tie male and female together for tight connection. also the good advise above.

I believe the problem was the connector as Ebutch suggested above.

In case its not fixed: the problem I was having with my wiring took forever to troubleshoot because everything passed continuity tests and also passed "live" tests with a circuit tester. But wouldn't light an 1157 bulb. So my bad connection(which turned out to be in the switches) would only reveal itself under load of a proper bulb. And so my suggestion would be to use a large wattage bulb with wires attached to check for both live and ground functionality. I've been told that a trailer supply outlet would have a good selection of pigtailed sockets.
