Installing a NEW 09 instrument cluster, is there any certain procedure I need to follow to get the IC to mate with the ECM? |

Hi! very interesting question! I will be swaping my 2008 1125R Instrument Cluster (draining battery) for a new one from 2009 (1125R). Is it better to swap for the 2010 instead? is there a differance between CR and R? I would like to get some info on the procedure itself as well! thanks |

I believe the IC will mate to the ECM automatically after being hooked up for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, the ECM writes the VIN to the IC, and to my knowledge, the IC cannot be used on another bike after that. |

Ciemny02, the factory service, parts, and electrical manuals can be found online, and are great resources for answering questions like yours. |

You just plug it in and it will mate after 30 minutes. Do not use a 2010 cluster unless you have changed to incandescent turn signals. R and CR use the same cluster for a given year. |

But 08 and 09 are interchangeable? I'd like to get the gear indicator as I always forget what gear I'm in when making turns and such. Thanks |

I have an 09 IC on my 08 1125R. got the gear indicator+. When first connected, all the display shows is the countdown timer. Once it hits 30 minutes, it's married to the ECM. It can be used on another bike, but will display VIN and other info from the original bike. Z |

Zac, when I plugged in my new cluster, I got the normal readout. No countdown, 0mph, all the temps and whatnot. But the mileage did not show up. Granted I did not have it plugged in and on for 30 minutes. I should have more time to mess with it later. Thanks again. |

I haven't installed one yet, but get the impression from the Electrical manual that the display will function normally (while the timer is counting the 30 minute window) to allow a tech to determine whether a fault lies in the old IC or elsewhere. I probably will be installing one, as I recently found that mine (bike built in May of '09) has the 6.1 firmware. |

Can't remember all the details but the timer was on the screen, maybe where the clock is normally. Oh and it's a countdown timer, starts at 30min and goes to zero. Z |

Here's a pic of my 1125CR synching:
Counting down, just as Zack stated and taken at just the right time... 1313 |
