OK. So what number am I looking for? Is mine #36 as in Bartimus' list? And your 0035 is #258 that you're looking for?
Getting it prettied up, BTW. A nice set of pegs from the shed supply. Taking the sander to the pulley cover thingie tonight. Moving my imitation Banke shifter to it before it hits the road.

Nope,yours is vin # -----258,from an earlier vin # run than mine.Your bike is a very early built S-2--7/94.Mine was built 3/95.

You guys need to put your build dates,too,as that is a better indicator of where your bike falls in the list than the vin's as you can see by my #35 and John's #1,which I am sure was built after Eric's #258.

Am I being thick or making this more complicated than it needs to be? If they started with my VIN series, then started again with a new VIN seies halfway through the 95 models, then Jim's 000035 bike shouldn't have a plate saying #35 of whatever. But rather 35 plus however many were produced with the earlier VIN series. Does S2pengy's #416 signature plate match with a bike with a VIN 0000416? Am I looking for a plate that says #258? Is there an S2 that has the later VIN series that also ends with 258?

It still doesn't make sense but I'll stop being coy. With a VIN of 1B9RT11H9S3133258 and a build date of July, 1994, what timing cover do I want? #258? Would the first series have started with .....S3133001?

I had to take 24 hours to contemplate that. The verdict is the same: creative but disturbing. If nothing else, the pipe needs to route higher.
Like many others, I imagine, I'm watching eBay for our stuff. As a sorry excuse, I couldn't get registered in time to bid on some stuff that just went, including the all-important service manual that I should have bought a month ago when FMJ pointed it out. I was also eyeing spare bodywork that just went, in blue. Does anyone know what it went for in the end? And why did no-one want the V&H slip-ons? I think they went unsold. And is my Supertrap of the type known to have the support strap fail? Should I be looking for a back-up muffler?

I saw a shop manual for an S2 at our local Stealership on Friday. It was in a box of old manuals, and stuff, they are selling all that old stuff for $10 each. Let me know, and I'll go back and see if they still have it on monday

I've updated the S2 list that I've been mantaining, I'll post it again in about a week or two. Once again, Let me know if I made an error, or if you want to be added to the list!

If the manual is still there and available at even twice that price I'd like to have it if you were up for arranging that, Art. Let me know the total cost and I'll send you a bank draft. And a Cd version would be equally useful, please, Brad. My email server won't accept anything as big as that (and I haven't worked out the technology to start using my ISP's email. I should move that up the priority list.) If you meant that you could mail me a physical copy, that would be way cool too.

And John's bike is #1 of the second VIN series of 95 bikes. They started, I think, with the 1B9R series for an indeterminate number of bikes, then switched to the 4MZF series partway through the 1995 production run.
Thanks, Henrik. I think I'll track down that V&H for a spare in case the Supertrap lets go.
Doughnut. The Signature Series stuff were produced as an afterthought for all S2s. They might be at the dealership that sold the bike new. They might be in the hands of the first owner. They may be in someone's discount bin. Or they may be about to turn up on eBay for a price I wouldn't pay. But if I find anyone else's I'd give it to them, I think.

I reckon Jason's is the 145 th S2 built. Probably 05/94, or so. But after a number of 1B9R... builds, probably to ....999, they had to switch to another totally different series (4MZF...)and start again with a ....001, John's bike.
On another matter, how is everyone's sidestands holding up? Particularly Bartimus of the 145,000 claim to fame. Perusing the archives I see a discussion about various modifications. Aaron's fix to bend it in seems to look good but I'm leery of buggering it up if replacements are hard to come by.
Oh. And any thoughts on the CF Vance and Hines?

Eric,always park in gear and make sure you are not on too much of a slope and always put the bike down GENTLY,will last a long time.75,000 on my other one.

i met a guy with same vin # But #144, his name was jason also...weird. saw him in bristol tn at the drag strip. (dude, you on here?)
when did they start the # plate gas caps?

my sidestand is working fine, i just gotta remember to park in gear facing uphill, works like a charm!
ive heard some horror stories about the s2 sidestands (one i heard started a domino effect like all those old movies with a bunch of gang members chasing him down! eeew, what a thought! thanks god it wasnt me!)

I've never modified my kickstand, and have never had any problems with it. I don't mind the lean angle, I effectionatly call it my "tripod". the lock still works, the bike will roll forward a bit, and look like it's falling, but has never gone down. Even on hills.

Eric,
The "Wilson S2 Bend" is pretty straight forward.
Just heat it evenly with the torch up by the square section.
Bend it down (in toward the bike) and forward a bit.
Cool it off, check for fit and repeat if needed.

I did it to mine, it makes a big difference.
If you do it right, the stock spring will still work.

If you want, I can take a few pics this weekend and post them.

Doughnut,I have an RKA expandable tankbag that stays on all the time,a set of soft saddlebags, and one of their tailbags.Very easy to use.I have had the tank and saddlebags for 8 years and love them.Check out their website (the red S-2 in the catalog is mine)

I've got most of the pieces now, and just waiting for paint. Still need to go through the motor though.
And I do usually park it facing uphill just to be safe.

RKA or the Buell saddlebags work just fine. Have used both on my S2 with no problem. Ventura still has a rack system listed for the S2 as well.

Ventura for the S-2?Really.I called them several years back and was told that because the co was located in Australia and there was only 1 S-2 in all of down-under he did not forsee having a system as he needed a test mule.I ended up making my own.

Maybe my mistake FMJ, thought for certain I've seen an S2 with a Ventura rack. But sure enough when I look at their fitment page the S2 isn't listed. I wonder if the S3 rack will fit the S2 somehow since the tailsections appear to be somewhat similar.

Bummer, scratch that backup plan/idea if I sell the M2 someday.

I might have some spare S-2 saddlebag parts,I will check in barn tomorrow.Today I finally made progress on getting my S-2 back together after the teardown at Boneville and the ensuing clean-up and health check.I must have sent prayers to all the right gods cuz it lit right off and did not leak at all.New rings,gaskets,cleaned valves,ports,put on XB rockers and breathers.Got the ISR dual disc set-up with the Marchesini front on.God it sounds good!!!

Is that an actual S2 Race Header and Exhaust Can I see there? Or an S1 unit? Can't see it too well. In either case, I need one! (Yeah, good luck!) Also, what kind of seat/seat pad is that? And thirdly, should you have S2 deep saddlebag lids that you'd be willing to part with among your S2 spares, I'd be interested...

Yes,genuine race header for S-2--though I seem to remember there was several other models it fit,probably an early S-3,I have had it since the race kits came out way back when.I think the S-1 header ends in front of the motor and the S-2 is quite a bit longer and the collector is under the motor.

I was just wondering about the header I recently picked up. The collector starts just at the point the primaries curl to the rear. The end of the collector is almost mid point of the cylinders.

testing grounds? thats an easy one:
version 1: these were some of the first buells built so alot of the newer bikes technology came from these. these were tested tried and true so future generations of buellers could have reliable and safe means of cycling.
version 2:just came to mind in a drunken stupor, so i thought id call it that.
version 3: sounds sexy
you pick the version you like...

My 1995 actually had a host of parts that I beat on and many appeared on the 1996 S-2's. Stuff like the "T" stuff. I had a collection of headers and 4 various heights of windscreens as well.

The first S2 headers had the seams in them...later ones did not.

My S2 was refered to as a "crouch rocket" and a "
pocket ocket" today. For some reason this bothered me a lot and I felt the need to defend the S2. My S2 is better then some crouch rocket. Anyone else have this happen to them. And what is it about the S2? I had two people at stop lights say to me, " do a wheelie, do a wheelie". The little kids in the neighborhood like the bike though.

That is an accurate statement. The one currently on my S2 was an R&D pipe. I had some compro pictures. The seams never bothered me.

Hmmm, my S2T has seams on the 'race' header. Very nice work. Nice tight fit with the 'race' muff. The 'original' 'Trapp was just too loud---as in attracting too much unwanted/un-needed LE attention; plus it was just plain obnoxious on the highway---even with ear plugs!
