That seems pretty huge to me. It needs to happen in the industry, but no manufacturer is willing to kill the "stick it to them for parts" golden goose (which eats a pound of flesh from us the customers). |

Given their distribution network, I'm guessing that means most people in the US have a part within a day or two shipping. I believe there is a HUGE parts unlimited warehouse right near where I work in Dayton. |

Please correct me if I'm wrong. Can the individual buy EBR parts from Parts Unlimited or do we have to go through the dealer? I would find it hard to believe that I could go through Parts Unlimited to buy OEM items without having to get "raped" by a dealership. |

Its a good question, especially since you can buy some parts direct already i.e. The web site. But my guess is that we will have to buy parts through a dealership. I don't think it would be good business for EBR to be selling direct. |

They might sell them at retail to individuals (which will give parts direct a big profit) or wholesale to dealers (who can discount or make the same profit). Or it will be some kind of exclusive arrangement, and parts direct is just a distributor / warehouser |

As far as automotive dealerships go most operate on a specific profit system. The profit that is made in the parts and service department cover all the overhead of the business, including payroll. Then the vehicle sales profit is the profit of the business. But you have the parts department as a relationship building tool. Ever notice that the parts counter is at the Back of the sales floor? It brings in people, and gives them a opportunity to engage you. A lot of bikes get sold, because someone went to get parts. If I were a dealer I wouldn't be happy if the factory was selling parts direct. |

We will have to purchase new parts through the dealer. Back about 10 years ago parts and service departments in the auto industry could cover most of the dealer expenses, but not any more, most dealers might have 40% up to maybe 60% absorption, margins are just not there any more to make it happen, cars and motorcycles are being designed to have less maintenance, which means less trips to the dealer. Most hard parts are only marked up 20-25% from the dealer, accessories might be 30%. Turning a profit in a dealership is no easy task, real easy to loose a bunch. |

if anybody from EBR is reading this please do not limit the parts to ONLY EBR dealers. You will do so much better if you open it up to ALL parts unlimited dealers. I have been wanting to buy a new 1190 BUT not having an EBR dealer anywhere in CO has prevented me from doing so. I have even went so far as to inquire as to what it would take for my shop to sell EBRs but was basically told I am not enough of a "Boutique" to be considered. I have been wanting to buy a new 1190 BUT not having an EBR dealer anywhere in CO has prevented me from doing so.

Just the opposite. the CO mountain roads are one of the best reasons to own a Buell yet we have no dealers for 300 miles in any direction!! |

That area of the US does seem to be a "hole" in EBR's dealer network. Hopefully that will be rectified before too long. |

I lived in Texas for 7 years and I can tell you that the year round riding does not make up for the lack of good twisties. If you ever get up to CO you would understand that it is not about the quantity of riding but the quality. Come on EBR, Lets get a dealership open in CO!!! I have offered if nobody else will step up. Something is better than nothing is it not? |

Dan you will be glad to know you can be too Boutique. I was asking when they would have a dealer in Oregon they said they were working on it. I said I hoped it wouldn't be Moto "can't" because I did not feel I could afford that place. "They can out boutique a Harley dealer." I was told they will not be a dealer. |
