"But at present, according to the new report, we are on track for an increase of up to 8 degrees." Ho-ho, based on those super-duper models that all failed to predict the non-rise in temperature?
All he does is repeat the same old refuted claims as articles of faith that we are supposed to just accept, along with a lower standard of living. Couldn't he have just a little bit of balance and address the non-rise and the Climategate exposure of secretly conspiring to maintain their grants?
What is clear, however, from an abundance of worldwide indicators, is that global temperatures are on a path to be “far warmer than the warmest interglacials in millions of years,” said Bierman.
What is clear to me is the models that seem to be the "worldwide indicators" have not accurately predicted the past, much less the future. I see no sign of this interglacial period getting any warmer than it is now, and every sign it will get colder.
It's not as warm TODAY as it was 1000 years ago, and I'd frankly be happier if it was. It IS warmer than it was about 200 years ago, and I'm grateful. Cold sucks. Warm good.
When are these bozo's going to realize that? When it gets cold we have plague, war, mass starvation and misery. When it gets warm we have a Renaissance, abundant food and good times.
This MAY tie in to the BLM thread. Clinton made that Utah Federal Monument land after getting a huge bribe from Indonesian coal industry. Guess what's under that Utah land? Biggest coal deposit in NA? Guess what coal is now off limits?

problems with the dream. Unless you have subsidies.
Later this year the company is scheduled to finish a $200 million-plus facility in Nevada, Iowa, that will produce 30 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol using corn residue from nearby farms. An assessment paid for by DuPont said that the ethanol it will produce there could be more than 100 percent better than gasoline in terms of greenhouse gas emissions.
The research is among the first to attempt to quantify, over 12 Corn Belt states, how much carbon is lost to the atmosphere when the stalks, leaves and cobs that make up residue are removed and used to make biofuel, instead of left to naturally replenish the soil with carbon. The study found that regardless of how much corn residue is taken off the field, the process contributes to global warming.
I knew this research would be contentious," said Adam Liska, the lead author and an assistant professor of biological systems engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. "I'm amazed it has not come out more solidly until now."
Lincoln? Nobody in Nebraska could be for growing corn. How silly.
Here's a scary one. The Yellowstone Supervolcano is thought to be working towards a big, all at once, massive release of ash & other fun stuff. We're about due for one of these, as they seem to erupt every 70,000 years, and it's been about that long. The last one is thought to have very nearly wiped out man. Like about a dozen women left on the planet.
Research shows children brought up with Ipads are unable to stack blocks. They lack the motor skills. They are developmentally retarded.
Teens using personal electronics lack interpersonal skills. They have few if any real friends, but hundreds of Facebook ghosts.
I also noticed a report that online dating leads to short relationships as people move from one to another, faster and more often than they change their avatars in online gaming.
A buddy, a very nice widower, uses this technology. He's met several very nice ladies, and..... then it's over and he meets more. From one week to the next I have no idea who I will meet when we go to dinner, or get together for a movie. So I believe that report.
I've also noticed that some people seem to have aggression control issues online. I'm sure I'm not immune to this, although I haven't threatened to come to anyone's house and punch them because they told me I was wrong....
We live in interesting times. ( that is an ancient Chinese Curse, btw )
I strongly suggest anyone who delights in his new phone, or pad, or Google Glass, read "The Machine Stops" by E.M Forster.
Written in 1909. It tells of a world that has become so dependent on technology.......
Here. It's free. For most literate folk it will take less time than a level up in your current game.
I've also noticed that some people seem to have aggression control issues online. I'm sure I'm not immune to this, although I haven't threatened to come to anyone's house and punch them because they told me I was wrong....
And a very strange irony there was that he started that thread which was about violence committed by others. I can kind of see him being anti-gun however. When you are prone to violence against others, you probably don't want them to be able to defend themselves.
Killer virus spreads unchecked through U.S. hog belt, pushing pork to record
Bacon is going to cost more. This will please the militant vegetarians who want to ban the eating of meat, but will raise food prices across the board because of market forces.
Also I notice that the folk in Chicago seem to have lost the ability to make a complete sentence for a headline.
Reuters and Yahoo posted the same story with the same headline....
Should we blame Twitter? Or the Education System?
"If a foreign government had imposed this system of education on the United States, we would rightfully consider it an act of war."
Glenn T. Seaborg, National Commission on Education, 1983
As an aside, the flu "waves" that come out of China every year seem to be because of medieval farming techniques and the closeness of the workers daily to the animals. Sometimes a new virus comes out of other countries, but China produces them like clockwork.
Swine flues are feared because of the genetic closeness of pigs to humans. ( anyone who saw Wall-e knows...... )
Bird flu is often an intestinal flu in birds, but becomes a respiratory flu in humans as human breath in dried dung.
Once in the human body, the virus mutates which is one reason the annual flu vaccine batches never can protect against all the flues we get sweeping through.
Also there's a lead time to make and distribute the vaccine so any bugs that come out of China after the mix is determined just can't be included. In many cases the nasty ones didn't even exist until it's too late.
Sifo, what amused me was the math skills. No wonder someone doesn't get that 100 years old technology isn't new when he thinks you are 60..... from your profile. Hang in there kid.
Still hoping this is just a minor thing. Just another disease to add to the long list hypochondriacs imagine they have, but few real people get.
Still hoping.
Weird thing about SARS. "severe acute respiratory syndrome" It was a killer in Asia. It was a killer in Canada, where it first came to this Continent, but in the US it became MARS "mild acute respiratory Syndrome". Not as big a killer, and no one is worried about it today. ( outside the CDC )
Same "germ". Different results.
Why? That question is still discussed, and there is no certain answer.
There are a few theories, and one is that the food we eat has loaded us with chemicals that protect us. There's a warning built into that possibility.
If our fake food soaked systems are relatively unaffected by bug A, compared to a Chinese peasant, there is no reason that bug B won't be nastier to us than everyone else, too.
Or the reason could be completely different, but it's NOT genetic. Not our genetics anyway, since Americans are from everywhere. Still, there is some common environmental effect, or genetic drift in the bug that could make a disease benign, or catastrophic.
My guess is it's Hostess Cupcakes. ( or Twinkies ) If so we've opened a perilous gap in our Twinkie systems!
Well if taxing cigarettes reduces smoking, and taxing alcohol reduced drinking, and taxing health care... (well that's just an anomaly), then certainly taxing global warming will reduce that too!
Sure! It does........if the model being sold was correct.
The concept of anthropomorphic climate change has not been disproved. It has not been proven either. The trouble is the players are not honest politicians & scientists. We know that from emails and simple observation.
The anti-global climate change guys are not all honest either. Big oil....... of course "they'd" lie.
Consider the anti fracking film paid for by oil sheik money.
It's common sense to stop burning fossil fuels. We need an affordable alternative. Stewardship of the planet is necessary to stay alive. Don't litter. Clean air & water.
All this looks clear and obvious to me. I just want a better grasp on the science before we go... Terraforming our own planet. Especially if the chosen techniques are imposition of an authoritarian planetary regime. Just saying.
