I have a Shoei shaped head.
Currently wearing a Multitech.
I bought thicker cheek pads and the fit is top notch.
It fogs a bit in the AM here in Florida but if I leave the visor open one notch it is not a problem.
It's great for me.
Not cheap but I have "crash tested" a RX1100 & I can still make coherent sentences!
Helmets are, IMHO, all about fit and usefulness.
My brain is important to me so I don't scrimp on cost.

I'm really thinking about going back to Arai. You already know to spend the money.
As far as perspiration in the helmet. I started wearing balaclavas inside my helmet when I was in the desert. Think of it like underwear for your head. My helmets don't get that stink in them. |

From what I've read, any helmet that is DOT/Snell certified is basically as safe in a crash as any other. What your extra money buys you is better fit, comfort, airflow, and other similar features. |

Belinda, like Sprintex suggested, that LS2 helmet is getting rave reviews, especially for the money. You should look into one of those. |

I'm on my second AGV and I've been really pleased with them. Both have been flip-up's. |

Just got this Bell Revolver over the winter.
Going to try it out this weekend it's going to be in the 50's for the first time in almost 5 months.

I will keep that in mind for the future. unfortunately none of the places I went carried that line.
So, given that the stator has just gone bad on the X, my motorcycle budget decreased basically over night. And both Buells are gonna need tires.
So, a compromise was in order and I went with something I was familiar with...a Nolan.
I got the N86 in metallic white and plan to break it in at highway speeds this afternoon to see how it behaves. I may have enjoyed confusing the hound by wearing it around the house yesterday.
I really thought I was gonna go with something hi viz until we were in downtown Denver and I saw a white helmeted guy riding in the shade with the backdrop of a grey building and that helmet just popped. In that environment, the helmet was about as visible as the yellow hi viz jacket he was wearing. I think the white helmet/hi viz jacket is a winning color combo to be better seen in most conditions.
Besides the fit, what I really liked about the Nolan was the drop down sunshade visor.
It is also super lightweight.
Thanks for everyone's input and I'll report back after I have used it a bit. |

Arai claims the built in sun visors are not safe. They say it may compromise helmet integrity in a crash. Don't know if I buy it or not but the integral visor helmets are not Snell approved.

Looks nice and I like my Arai helmet but yikes $90!. For that you can almost buy an entire LS2. |

Please post up that link if you can, Krabykarl. In my research, I did not come across that info, but I guess it makes sense as I have heard of the structural integrity of ski helmets being compromised when skiers drill holes through so they can mount their go pros.
I don't have ready access to the helmet at the moment but I do recall it being ECE and DOT certified. Because it originates in Italy, I did not give it a second thought to it not being snell certified. If I do have concerns about it, the helmet can always be tapped as a replacement for my range helmet, which also needs to be replaced. |

Fltwistygirl I couldn't find where I saw the drop down visor/snell standards last year when I was researching helmets. I thought I saw it on one of the thousand or so Revzilla videos I watched. Something to do with it not passing penetration or impact standards.
In doing some research I did find out that Snell is in some ways safer then ECE and in some ways not. Like most things in life it's an on going debate. |

True that and thanks for the reply.
As far as my new Nolan, I really like it. Nice fit on my head, and no clearance issues with either my regular glasses or my sunglasses. I tested it on the interstate, and there was no lofting, and it was pretty quiet. Not sure if we will ever get set up with an intercom system but it looks to be plug and play if we do. On a bright sunny day, the drop down sun shield is a nice addition to my sunglasses. I met Mr. Twisty at his work on Friday and we rode home together. He said the white helmet really stood out.
I'm looking forward to testing it in rainy, foggy and cold conditions. Maybe one of these days when we get a cold front, the precipitation will be in the form of true rain and not a wintry mix. |

I would go with best fit to your head over worrying about which standard was "better" DOT/ECE/Snell.
A poor fit, especially loose, would easily negate even the best crash helmet standards when your head finally collides with the way-to-loose liner in a poor fitting helmet.
After researching way too many articles and standards, I realized the only thing they all agree on is how important a snug fit all the way around really is. |
