You guys have inspired me to get my S2 going again. Everything works BUT the turn signals. I have a new 3 prong relay but haven't the foggiest as to hooking this one up. Any help is appreciated, pictures are a plus as this is a weird system to me. Thanks! |

P.S. When I do the turn signal test with a jumper lead the signals work. When I plug in the stock rectangular module, she no work. When I try adding a ground to the black lead with the module hooked up, she no work. I should mention that this battery is about as dead as you can get so I'm doing this with a battery charger hooked up. The headlight works but it's too low to even make the starter click. I don't know if that could be doing it or not. (Message edited by SteveFord on July 13, 2013) |

Steve I think you answered your own question. Connect a good working battery to your bike before trying to diagnose something that may work ok with a good battery |

I think we're both right - a new battery is needed to get it going again, anyway. |

An S2 doesn't have a 3 prong relay. It has a TSM - Turn Signal Module. It allows you to have a button on each grip, hazard function, and distance-cancel function. |

Thanks, it has the OEM module on it. I was looking for assistance in adapting a 3 prong relay from a later model. |

The Early style has the self cancelling thing going on. Later ones don't do the self cancelling. I personally prefer the self cancelling thing. |

It won't be an easy swap. S2? Two buttons, two sets of contacts on the input side that can be used to either trigger L or R turn, or used together to trigger four way flashers. Also has speed sensor input to module, allowing self-cancel feature. Any later Buell - 3 prong flasher with a single button that slides one of two ways to trigger either L or R turn. No sensor input. No hazard function. My *guess* is...the S2 has four input contacts (L+, L-, R+, R-) while a later bike has a common ground, and a L+ and a R+ to tell the module which side to flash. You'd be looking at a pretty good re-wire to change it over. Get a charge in the battery. Hook in the stock module. Hook up ONE turn signal, and see if it flashes (it will flash fast). If it does, hook up its partner (if you do LR, then add the LF). Try the pair. If they work, move to one of the right side signals. Repeat. If nothing works...when's the last time you had the switch housings off the bars? Could have pinched a wire reinstalling. Another quick check - hook up a signal(s) and see if the hazard function works. If it works but turn signals don't, that tells me you have a problem with the speed sensor input to the module. There is a wire you can cut to disable the self-cancel feature, but I don't recall which color it is. |

The signals last worked before I did an engine/swing arm/exhaust/whole bunch of other crap swap one weekend. I parked it as the old tires didn't have enough grip for the motor and I just never got around to buying new Michilins to keep it from killing me. I recall it trying to shoot out sideways underneath me on it's shake down ride. The "new" motor is kind of peppy. It did 98.6 RWHP on the dyno if I remember correctly. It's going to be something real simple with the turn signals but I was hoping for an easy way to chuck that self cancelling bit. I've thought about going with 7/8" Verlicchi swan necks and later Buell switch gear and controls but not this year. That will be a bit of a project right there. I'll do a write up on the bike with some pics once it's back on the road. Right now it's covered with a thick layer of sawdust and garage grime. The old Purple Nurple is a pretty wild motorcycle but it needs a few things to make it ready to ride again. Once it's finished up I think it will be my favorite motorcycle! |

Easy way to chuck the self-cancel is...check out a wiring diagram and see which wire feeds signal from the speedo to the TSM....and cut it. Still have 2 thumb operation. Still have hazards. Just don't have self-cancel. |

Turn signal hell wasn't so bad after all. It just needed a new battery and everything works perfectly. New tires showed today along with new tips for my tire dismount/mount rod so I'm getting much closer to completion. I can't wait! This bike reminds me so much of my old Norton Fastback I had back in High School. |
