This has been one of those lingering projects that I never quite could get around to doing... Until now. So the idea is that I wanted to reduce the gearing on the bike since I never use 5th gear. I like to cruise on my 2002 M2 between 3,500 and 4,000 rpm. On the highway that means I am in 4th. I had a 26 tooth sprocket up front for awhile and that was better, but it was aluminium and it eventually wore out. So I found this cool looking Big Dog leftover that I picked up for $50. I had the center hole widend (local shop, $40) to fit my rim and am mounting it backwards for both spoke alignment and backspacing. I do need to add a 1/8" spacer to get the backspacing correct ($9.95 from Drag Specialties). As soon as the spacer comes in I will put it all back together. You can see the size difference moving from 61 to 70 teeth. Based on the adjustment in the swingarm it should be able to handle the change. If not, I did pick up a belt that is slightly longer but would prefer not to have to change to it. (Message edited by koz5150 on July 30, 2013) |

Sorry, I meant 61 on the stock pully and stepping up to a 70 tooth. The pulley was a spare part made for a Big Dog motorcyle before they went out of business. (Message edited by koz5150 on July 30, 2013) |

The speedo sensor is not a big deal. I am replacing my speedo with a GPS unit in the dash. I rarely use it anyway, I look at the tach and just flow with traffic. |
