I've read about people putting an 07 airbox lid on 06 bikes for more air flow. Does it really make a difference? If I do the swap, will I need the 07 ECM map? (My bike has the stock exhaust and the K&N filter.) |

Not much difference between 06 and 07 that will make a noticeable difference. The biggest differrence was between the early 2002/03 XB9 and the 2004 XB12, as the early ones had a poor design. You canmake a slight difference with yours just by drilling/cutting some more holes in the sides so you don't really need to swap |

I bored holes in my 06 air box lid. You certainly can buy the 07' lid but can accomplish the same thing by drilling the 06 lid. |

Electraglider, did you remap your ECM? |

I had the ECM reflashed to the 07 map by the dealer I bought it from. Don't really know if that was necessary but other's here may know. |

I drilled as many 1" holes in the inner air box as my '06 unit would support. I did not do the re-flash or any remap for this mod. The adaptive ECM will relearn the modest change this makes in the fuel mapping. It ran great with this mod from the start. |

Did the airbox swap and '07 ECM flash, on my '06 Uly. Did it make a difference? Maybe. I did them both to avoid problems. |

I think I'll try the 07 air box instead of hacking mine up. Never hurts to have a spare. Thanks guys! |

If you look at a 10 bikes box over a 06 bikes box the vents are a lot bigger. Opening up the 06 bikes box will not give you any more power but it does give a slightly "crisper" throttle pick up. It is only a little thing but this and the breather mod on a 06 bike helps the idle and running a lot. The breather mod is the one to do though and the first thing I did on my 10 bike. At idle and slow running it was, as with the 06 bike, like "light and day" and the 10 bike had a very good idle to start with. Both are cheap/easy mods and not a problem to the ECM. |

Thanks Uly_man. I did the breather mod last fall and it helped. I'm not having a lot of slow speed issues, especially after replacing my failing TPS. |

I replaced my '06 with the '07 box lid about 5 years ago. The new lid was so cheap it wasn't worth dremeling the old one to me. It MIGHT have helped low RPm smoothness, but I also did it at the same time as changing to the lower XB9 primary gearing, so that might explain it better. No ECM remapping was done or seemed needed on the OEM ECM. Now running an EBR ECM and is still fine. |
