First superbike practice session over. Looks like May was 3rd fastest and Eslick 4th fastest. Not bad for a track where it was suggested they wouldn't do so well. |

My thoughts exactly . . . for one of the fastest "power tracks" designed by the Ferrari folks to keep from getting embarrassed at the finish . . . the EBR mikes are making, in the early showing, a phenomenal showing. We're coming up . . at Mid-Ohio . . on the 1-year anniversary of the 1190RS. Pretty neat stuff . . . |

Nice showing, much closer to the front than I expected. I'm pretty optimistic and these guys are outdoing my hopes! GO EBR! |

Anyone know why the qualifying session was red flagged? |

Very good qualifying for our guys at a really hard H.P. track. My only question is going to be a dead stand still start and a long up hill to turn one. Similar to MMP and again it's a long drag race to start and I hope our guys do not get left behind and have to play catch up all race. We really need some good 0-60 ft. & 1/4 mile times. BUT, what a year so far, exceeding all my wishes for EBR. Outstanding perseverance from all concerned. Wish I was there to again cheer them on. Bob |

Obviously, practice ain't qualifying. I just reviewed the first qualifying results and the horsepower effect is obvious. Looking at the segments and trap speeds really shows it. One thing that does seem to be a strong suit of the EBR bikes is the consistency and closeness of the lap times and even top speed. Hmmm.... I sure hope there is some more engine development on the 1190 to be done that will yield more horsepower without negatively impacting performance in other areas. Just the same, GO EBR! |

Red flag, one of the Ktm riders went down hard. Geoff and Danny look amazing. I shook my head in disbelief every time Danny comes into turn 5. Crazy! |

It seems like the lack of traction control would explain their difficulty in getting good starts. Hopefully Hero's $$ are currently funding the project to fix that. |

I don't think traction control has anything to do with it. AMA bike don't have very sophisticated stuff. It is just a drag race and the 4s make a bit more power and spin up faster so it gives them an edge. I figure by the end of the year the boys will be winning that drag race. Actually at RA losing that start is not as bad as at many tracks. The whole next bit of the track is wide open with room to pass so you don't get stuck trying to finesse your way by a just slightly slower guy trying to hold you up. It is going to be an interesting race. I hope for a top five. |

Thanks Venom! I was watching the live timing and it didn't show a crash at all. |

I agree with Dave and will add; when the first turn is a shorter distance from the start our guys will have a much better chance to stay with the high H.P. guys. Many 1/4 mile "drag races" are won with better H.P. and a better top end. If Geoff and Danny can stay with the IL4's to turn one they can many times pass them in the turns. And there are quite a few tracks coming up with just that; a short run to turn 1. Buell (EBR) still kicking butt in the twisties. |

I'm with the crash trucks so I didn't get the whole scoop and couldn't tell from a picture one of the guys took but when I went up to the pits later there was a Fillmore bike missing. Unfortunetly the first bike picked up was some red bike #99... sound familiar? Haha. Ran out of gas on purpose I'm thinking. |

It's not as long from the start to turn 1, but still a good distance. And the grids are already beyond the big hill, no issue there. |

A weekend spent with the likes of Frank Hawley, or George Bryce, or Rickey Gadson would go a long way towards getting a good run off the start on a bike with no wheelie control or electronics. Nobody goes the first 60 ft quicker than a trained drag racer. |

WTF have been watching AMA Live Timing all day, walked away to help a customer unload his bike, came back race was over and Danny had won. ... But then when the screen refreshed the race had not started, but in fact it had started almost an hour ago??? Still not right Flag is purple (waiting) with only 12 to go and no one has any times yet., but splits are showing green. Terry |

I saw that, but it said SBK practice 2, 10 laps, Slick with fastest time 2:39.??? Just watched the race on live timing, and it must have been a really weird one... several top folks out, weird lap times, red flag at the end...WTH happened? |

I saw that on live timing too. I thought my phone had glitched or something. Went from a super high to a low in just a short time. I realized something was fishy when I saw the second half of the fields times were just dashes. |

Red flag: Somebody went down on turn 6 at the last lap because it rained just before the end. Geoff overshot turn 5 on lap 2 and lost a bunch of spots. It looked like Danny puked oil or coolant all over turn 5 during warm-up. He had to start the race from the pits and fought back hard and looked really good until he started pouring smoke so he was forced to pit and DNF. Geoff made his way past the KTM guys and finished 8th. I must say that the EBR bikes looked like they had a lot more power than the KTMs because as they approached the hill after the last turn they easily overpowered the KTMs. Josh Hayes just blew everybody away. Hopefully EBR will have better luck tomorrow and hopefully it won't rain as it made the track very slick. |

Tweets from CycleWorldMag, MotoUSA & speedtv indicate that rainy weather caused delays, Eslick black flagged due to smoking on decel, Rapp DNF due to chain prob & race red flagged due to rain. |
