Got on the road last week for the trip south. The Uly is running very well. I seem to have developed some excessive vibration. I just installed a new clutch cable which may be in need of another adjustment??? I cut off I5 in Oregon over Grants pass (some really nice sections through the forrest) to Crescent City in Northern California. Which is where I took this photo of my bike. From there it was Hwy 101 to Hwy 1 all the way to San luis Obispo. This really is an amazing ride, especially if the weather cooperates, which it did for me. If you have not ridden this coastline, it is a must do on a bike. The Ulysses is perfect for it. I cut inland from here over to Palm Springs. I discovered the "Angeles Crest Hwy", which winds up through the San Gabriel wilderness, north of LA. Another fantastic road, amazing surface, twisties, scenery. I really did not expect the riding here to be this good. I have more photos of the coast but I cant get them off my netbook at the moment. Presently still in Palm Springs, getting tires on the Uly. Heading for San Diego on Sunday. Then into Mexico.

Beautiful pic and awesome roads. I've ridden the ones you mentioned and I agree- the Uly was made for roads such as those! +1 on Hwy 74 Ride safe and keep posting |

I am now almost at he bottom of the Baja!! Uly is running well, and has been great for this trip. There are some excellent fast sweeping sections mixed with some long stretches of straight roads. With the occasional construction which can involve a bit of dirt road. The Uly handles it all well....even if it is a bit overloaded The riding/food/people/scenery are all excellent. I am having issues getting photos on here. I have a few on Facebook if anybody want to check out the progress. kevin Irvine in whistler |

Hey, It not that bad! My Top box is more or less empty. I use it for my jacket/boots/tankbag if I stop somewhere. The panniers are not totally packed either. I leave a bit of space. They are mostly camping gear and spares/tools etc. The motofizz bag is just clothes and personal stuff. Makes a good back rest on the long straight bits. If I dumped my camping gear I could easily get rid of the seat bag. But I will hold on to it for now. Its always good to have a back up. |

Cool! So, how many tires have you gone through? My biggest issue I have with the Uly is the heavier the load the shorter the tire span on trips like this. Wayne |

I fitted a pair of PR3's in Palm Springs. They have around 3000km on them and show little sign of wear. I'll I haven't hit much dirt yet and they are working out well, so far. I Have used PR2's before and get very high mileage from them. I have done over 8000km on this trip so far. Very happy I fitted the.... Palmer footpegs (these make a huge difference on long days) Palmer bracket, with 20in madstad screen. This set up happened more by accident than design.......literally. Palmer light bar/lights Lowering collar from jasonB. Really nice to get both feet firmly in the ground for a change. Although I had to remove my tool tubes as they were hitting the wheel after I fitted the collar. My barkbusters can in handy when one of my riding partners was clipped by a bus, knocking him over into me. My Uly got pinned under a GS1200 with the Highway pegs out. No damage. they just folded in. No broken levers. Just a bit embarrassing with a bunch of Mexican school kids looking on So far, the Uly has been perfect for this trip. |
