Fantastic! You are probably at least 3 weeks behind me though. Mexico has a lot to offer. I just arrived in Guatemala after 4 weeks there and just skimmed the surface. There is so much to see!!! |

Hey All, I just arrived in El Salvador. It has been excellent so far. The border crossings are a pain in the ass though. I have some more photos from the trip on FB. Just hit the links below.

Kevinaye, you running solo? There is another guy from Washington on Advrider.com just behind you in Guatemala city (also running solo). He got delayed when he hit a rock with his F800 and the BMW dealer is fixing the case. He is heading all the way to the tip of South America. Maybe you guys could get together for Christmas. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?p=17 528731#post17528731 |

you have a year for the trip though!! Take your time I wish I could slow down a bit but If I want to get all the way to the bottom I have to keep movin. Mexico is a blast. make sure you ride up to Durango when you get off the ferry from the Baja. And look out for traffic on your side of the road!!! |

Hey, hope you all had a fantastic holiday season. here some more shots of the trip south. I did take a slow speed spill on some dirt. Happy to say nothing really broke. Hwy pegs, no issues. Light bar bent coupla scrapes. Even the madstad screen survived with only a few scratches.
heres some links to face book albums I have posted. Not all full of bike content, but all part of the trip. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150529505315240.423449.725200239&type=1&l=d31b710b85 http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150532588605240.423917.725200239&type=1&l=228ef3ed31 http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150554346355240.427955.725200239&type=1&l=4f0f9168b1 http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150556174775240.428249.725200239&type=1&l=68bba6dab0 |

I've been following BC Brian's thread over on ADV. He hasn't posted in a week or so. You guys gots to check in with us more often than that. Kevinaye, I would love it if you would post more commentary with your great pics. It's easier for us mere mortals to get a taste of your adventure with some descriptive typing. How hot is it where you are now? What kinds of food and drink is available to you? Language barriers? Funny incidences? Stuff like that would really spice this thread up. The rest of us are going to work every day and it's winter, you know. I love this thread!! |

I will try to get a bit more commentary in there! Thanks for letting me know. The problem is, I am a typer and even a small paragraph takes me a long time. I am traveling with a woman on a RTW trip, that is with me in Costa Rica right now. Her blog is still in Alaska!! It takes time to edit the photos etc I will definitely try to get post up more often. |

My typing is the worst. If it wasn't for the spell checker on google chrome, you would be well aware of that fact. Don't worry about it. What we need is feeling and flavor type stuff. Thanks Kevenaye. I seriously love to read, see and feel your ride report. Dan |

Just read Brian's RR. WOW! I am foaming at the mouth with envy! My entire definition of "epic adventure" has just been re-written. Very interested to see the expense reports when the trip is finished. |

He mentioned a spreadsheet he is compiling to watch his budget and possibly putting everything together at the end of the ride. |

Part of a growing community with Buell's coming way down south. No ride report and don't mean to hijack Kevin's great ride report. I'm down in BA now. 1 Burnt VR, 2 sets of tires and blown fork seal. Otherwise my Uly has been wonderful. I made up my mind when was about 11 years old that I'd do something like this someday. Came sooner than I though and was easier than anticipated. 10 months and 20K kilometers later, and wouldn't have taken anything else - x'ept maybe a horse - Gas hella expensive in Brazil; 80% more than back at home. She runs just fine on 15-20% alcohol, but mileage is WAY down. Now have to get her back up north. Will get back on the road for another 3K miles down to Buenos Aires and fly her back to LAX. Ride on!

hey Desert Bird, awesome adventure for you. I'm jealous. question; how do you fly a motorcycle back to LAX? I'm looking into ways to transport my Uly to. Found out that Amtrak does not carry motorcycles for you - just in case anyone else is wondering. |

Hi Greg ... on transport? I put the thing on a pallet and load into a plane - hopefully the same one that I fly one - then process it back through the US at Customs. Usually a container on boat is cheaper but it's not the case these days what with all the point and custom charges at port of departure. Boat also takes 1-3 months! Never thought of rail. Not option out here. But if you're talking about around the US, always funner to ride it. Btw, nice ride, dude! Cheers. DB |

Hey DB, good to see your route. Let me know now the shipping goes from buenos aires to LA. I have just arrived in cartegena, Colombia after a 5 day sailboat trip from panama via the San blas islands. It Was good until we hit a storm 60 miles from shore and were taking 20 ft waves on the top deck soaking the bikes. We just spent 4 hrs in customs and pick the bikes up tomorrow. Anybody got some saltwater cleaning tips???? I have some rust on the headers which was never there before. The good news is the muffler looks no different There was a total of 9 bikes on board. Most of them are power washin the bikes. I usually avoid this but I do want to get rid of the salt.... I have just turned 16k since leaving home an so far no issues. The uly has been ideal. Most of the guys most more off road worthy bikes spend 90 % of the time on asphalt anyway. My computer is down,so I have not had a chance to post pics. The trip is still going vey well. Cartegena is way better than I expected. |

Brian had a long term illness that he was dealing with and also got a bout of homesickness. He's storing his bike in southern Mexico and going back to BC for a while. I don't know if you can find it there, but I'd be some CLR would take the rust right off those headers and other surface areas. Glad to hear your Buell is doing so well down there. I'm planning my own trip that way for next fall. |

Kevin, fantastic! you made the crossing to Colombia. Fun one, eh? All I can say is that Colombia was among the best for me. Mexico really nice, rest of CA eh, soso. Too many border crossings. But enter Colombia and it all turns away up again. Amazing well engineered roads through high-waterfall filled mountains, along virgin coasts and across all sorts of high plains. Medellin is spectacular, and the ride from there to Bogota is stellar and curvaceous stuff. Chicas loved the Buell too! You continuing down the West side, or traveling though Venezuela? Sorry to hear about Brian. We were in touch prior to his departure. Wishing him the best. He's remains on the road in spirit. DB |
