You only get one head ... I have been through many and now have a Bell Star ... light and quiet and well rated ... a little pricey but you can pick up last years models cheap ... also another option is the Shoei x-11 and x12 ... i had and still have an x-11 and is a good option but a little heavier than the Bell Star ...these are full face helments ... another great option that i have with my Bell Star is the "Tranitions Solfx" sheild ... it changes to smoke in sun and clear in dark ... works very well ... Good Luck and remember you only have one head ...

Scorpion helmets are the best bang for the buck by far.
The newest one, the EXO500, is a great helmet and great design. |

That's what I was hoping to buy but it fit me so poorly when compared to the Shoei that I could not do it, had to go with the Shoei. Feature for feature the Scorpion 500 is a great deal, as long as it fits.

Crash helmet fitting is a very interesting subject. It's beyond me why none of the manufacturers have yet to offer different head shaping within the same model line and/or a solid means to match your head shape to the helmet model/size best suited for it. Some inventive enterprising person is going to figure out a good solution to that and grab a huge market share.
A shape to fit solution would need to involve the sacrificial crush layer, not just the comfort padding, some kind of custom fitting scheme, perhaps shim type layers that can be peeled away or added at the sides. It might even be a viable aftermarket product.
The problem with adding thicker soft comfort type padding is that it diminishes the effectiveness of the helmet. For example, hold a short piece of 2x4 directly against your head and knock on it as you would a big oak door. Now hold the 2x4 at a small distance, an eighth of an inch or so, away from touching your head and repeat. Ouch. Now hold it even further, an inch away. OUCH!
The closer to your skull and the firmer and thinner the comfort padding, the better your brain is protected by the sacrificial polystyrene crush layer of the helmet.
Conclusion? The best fitting helmet is not only going to be more comfortable long term, but provides better protection against concussive brain injury. |

Scorpion helmets are made in China by a Korean company, Kido Industrial Co., Ltd. I'd rather pay double for a non-communist made product. I wonder which are. |

hard to say as the japanese have lots of factories in korea and china as well as us. if the helmets aren't actually produced there chances are their components are, or they are assembled there from foreign and domestic components. pretty impossible to know. kind of like that uly component poster from awhile back. truely an international bike made in america. |

Shoei and Arai are made in Japan. I'm less interested in small components than the helmet as a whole. The same is true with any product I purchase. If the box has "Made in China" on it, I don't want it. Period. |

If I'm going to put 200 dollars worth of tires (Twice a year!) and hundreds of dollars in premium fuel in the bike... I'll damn well justify buying myself the best helmet I can find. Or any helmet I want, for that matter!
I've been a huge believer since I broke one of those 1970's blue metalflake helmets back in the day with an over the handlebars superman into a pile of rocks while offroading... two cracked verts in the neck and a couple of small scars on the scalp... my skull would have looked a crushed pumpkin... I don't care what the local helmet laws is... I'm wearing one.
As far as quiet goes... I love my Schuberth C3, quieter than many full faces I've owned, but the airflow is moderate at best. I've gone through a couple of Nolans, Scorpion Exo's and an Icon. My low cost 'Zox' modular is my modular for hot weather, the Scuberth for the rest of the time. The Zox actuall did very well in crash testing, but it's Noisy! (may partly be due to the great airflow).
Visit a cycle show or a big rally's vendor area and try on helmets, ask your friends to try on theirs. Fit is the most important thing... if it's comfortable you're much more likely to wear it.
I found a ten percent off coupon code on the 'net and they honored it when I ordered the Schuberth from CA or MSS... Couldn't even get a deal for two with CASH at the NY cycle show! They even wanted to collect tax! |

I have an Icon Variant and I love it. It was pricey but it sure is comfortable and cool on warm days. |

I have ran with HJC for about the last 15-20 years.I went to replace my last HJC fullface with a Shoei Qwest the Qwest was quiet and light and fit my oval head but could not settle with the silver scratched one that was left in the store so I tried on a HJC RPS 10. WOW it fit great it s light and the pinlock system works "no fog" = less fog than others.I got the patriot version some flash but it fits, it's not black and I think it was worth the price. Ran it all week and no cons yet. So I now got my 4th HJC and am still happy. Try one out. |

Country of manufacture is noted in every review in the summary table, for every product we review. Most helmets are made in China and, in fact, there are only a couple of factories that make helmets in China for the most common brands. In Asia, helmets can also be made in Taiwan or Korea.
In Europe, helmets are made in Italy, as I described in detail in my report with video from the Nolan helmet factory:

Also, Vemar and Caberg helmets are made in Italy. CMS helmets are made in Portugal.
Country of manufacture may vary within a brand and even a helmet model may be made in different countries, depending upon features or sometimes the manufacturer changes suppliers in the middle of a production run. With today's global economy, you never really know when this might happen.

Their modulars are perfect for me.
I am spoiled from their chinstrap and the clik-latch.

I have a Shark RSR2 size medium, wore it only once for 45 min., bought it because I loved the graphics. I wasn't the perfect fit for me, but like I say the graphics are very nice. I though I could make it work, I couldn't. I have a long oval head and need the Arai Profile or Signet-Q, nothing else fits my wacked shaped head. If your interested PM me, I have decided to sell it. Comes with extra liner and cheek pads. |

The problem I have when buying helmets is the fact that my head is too big. (Hey, brains take a lot of room!) I have only been able to find a few helmets that fit and the one that works best for me is HJC. I currently have a HJC CL-14 FUSE but it is getting old and a little loose now so I need a new one. Probably be forced to go with HJC again just for the size. I have to admit though, I like my HJC better than the Bell helmet I had previously. I would love to go with an Arai or Shoie but they just don't make huge sizes to fit me. Thanks. |

Just stopped by Competition Accessories here in Rock Hill, SC to buy the smaller check pads for my new Shoe I helmet...what a store! This place is as good as Revzilla so any of you here is the Charlotte/Rock Hill area have a great option to shop for helmets!
I moved to the 31mm pads and now this helmet feels like a glove, I am looking forward to my ride back north starting on Saturday!

Cool! I've ordered dirt bike gear from them years ago. Always good service. Some reason I thought they were in Colorado. Guess I didn't pay too much attention (or they moved within the last decade). |
